Don't you love those enslaved Privateers!!!

I have a whole army of Privateers!!!

No longer are they to be ignored.

The best part... I haven't been at war with anyone in a very long time.:goodjob:

They can enslave enemy units, making them Privateers (and doubling your fleet of them).

Yes, the AI will still go after you privateers like the plague.

Will the plague go after Privateers too? ;)

I remembered from CIV3 (did not play PTW) that privateers were kind of too weak to be of any real use... Is it still the case ? Because if they can't defeat anybody, they can't enslave anybody...

The Privateer is a very nice unit, it can even move much faster. Nuclear Submarines too have faster movement now. :)

If you don't mind doing a little modding...Go to the editor and give the privateer the ability to transport one unit. Load one of your standard land units on the privateer and it will work as I think the unit should. With a land unit on board, the AI will not attack your privateer as it would be declaration of war (and vice versa, you cannot attack an enemy privateer if it's carrying a land unit, unless of course you attack with a privateer). With a land unit on board you can still attack an AI ship and it will defend itself without war being declared.

You can sail merrily past hordes of AI ships until you find the one you want to attack, raise the skull and crossbones and fire away. If you survive, you lower the pirate flag, raise your country's flag and limp home for repairs. :D

Hey great idea... Even though I mind modding :lol: ;)
(not because I'm lazy, but because every time I mod I forget to start my games with the mod rules :p )

I always did like Privateers anyway, even how they originally were. They gave me a good way to sink pesky AI ships that were nearing my coasts without me having to declare war on them. Privateers are of course better now, just like everything else in the game :)

Is it me or do they tend to win more battles now?

For some reason in PTW they always seem to loose but now in conquest they seem to win a little more often?

They have the same stats.

I also found this with armies. They would loose most of their health bar before taking out some hit points of my enemy. Now it's like attacking with a single unit.

I have a feeling that they removed some kind of cripling code for these 2 units.

I never had this kind of success with privateers or armies before.

Armies now have an extra 1/6 attack. Maybe you are having more success with Privateers because you use them more. (Just a guess).

1/4 if you have the Military Academy, which effectively, doubles the stats of your units (if they're all the same type). You really start to notice the change after 4 offense/defense.

With the Military Academy:

4 gallics (3/2/2) would become a monsterous 6/4/3. A very powerful Cavalry. :)

4 Rifles - 4/6/1 --> 8/12/2
4 Cavs - 6/3/3 --> 12/6/4
4 Modern Armor - 24/16/3 --> 48/32/4 (this can bash through the strongest fortifications and metros)

Privateers on the other hand, hasn't really been changed, except for the enslave.

Cool, Does the military academy do this in ptw also. I havnt gotton conquests yet but I will.

Armies never got a combat bonus before.

guess this rules out rushing something with your first leader. Armies are to strong to not have access to building them.

The fact that you can no longer rush Great Wonders with Military GL's kind of contributes to the equation as well.

So let me get this straight:

Armies (without the Academy) add 1/6 of the total strength of their contained units to each unit? And one movement point? And auto-pillage? And 2-range visibility? And heal faster?

So without the Academy an Army of 3 vet Archers would attack like a Mounted Warrior with 12 HP? :eek: :eek:
