How come every time I start a new game (earth), my starting location is randomized???? (Americans start in Africa for instance). Is there some way I can "un-randomize" my starting-location??? Or am I just doing something completly wrong???
Find the Realistic Starting Nations thread on these forums. Some weeks ago I downloaded it (from the Completed Mods forum, I think) and I use it.
The mod utilizes the famous "Marla Map" of earth (reasonably accurate) with the ability to send all civs to their proper locations in 4000 BC.
I use it. The only problem is the map is huge and by the time you get to the Industrial Age you could take a quick snooze between turns!!
There is also a mod that uses both the above but greatly limits civs in Africa and the Western Hemisphere enabling colonization eventually.
Or maybe it's the same mod! I can't recall.
Look and you will find.
Caveat: in some scenarios you face a horde of barbarians. I once tried as the Chinese and got sacked twice within seven turns. The Japanese have no shot if China is in the game; the same with the English if France or Germany is in it - they will be stuck on their islands.
