I've been reading some of the posts on here and have seen several people mention that you can change certain values of a unit etc.

How do you do this? :)

I thought the editor only works on scenerios or am i mistaken? :)

If so what utilities can i use to make these changes universial in every new game i start? :)

You can use the Civ Editor to change unit values. Start the editor, go to Tools and uncheck 'Use Default Rules'. This allows you to edit units, terrain, general rules, a whole bunch of stuff. Just click on the Units tab to edit unit values. Note, however, that if you change the name of a unit, you need to make sure there is a corresponding unit folder with the exact same name. The .ini file in the folder also must have the exact same name. Good editing!

Sorry, missed the second part of your question:

If you want to use the changes with your normal game, you need to save the changes as Civ3mod.bic (be sure to back up your original Civ3mod.bic, just in case you need to revert back to it). However, you could just save your changes under 'anyname.bic' then go to start scenario to start a new game, select your map, civs, etc. as usual. That way you have the default game available if you want it, and your modified rules saved as a scenario when you want to use it instead.

Excellent! The English now have the SAS as their UU.

Thanks. Even though I bought the game at the end of november I hadn't really took a good look at the editor and didn't realise it could edit game values. Not like Civ II and units.txt with notepad :)

Yeah, many aspects of the editor for Civ III are easier to use, but it also lacks some of the capabilities of the old Civ II editor...i.e. no scenarios, no civ-specific advances, etc. Have fun playing with the editor.
