What the hell were those jurors thinking?

"Do I want to be called a racist by Al Sharpton if I give this kid what he deserves?"

"He's just a kid, its a phase, he won't do it again."

"I don't want to send another black kid to jail."

"Lets just hurry up and get this over so I can go back to my life."

Texan juries, reknowned for their leniency towards young black criminals

North Texans are really afraid of Al Sharpton.

Perhaps there is something we don't know, that would seem like the most likely explanation to me.

what could possibly justify that sentance? I literally cannot imagine anything that would

Insanity? Drugs? Being pressured by someone else? Perhaps not the best excuses in the world, but might be able to get it that low.

Who said afraid?

I deal with it all the time. Many people on this very forum call me racist often. I don't fear them but I am tired of the tripe. Some times you just don't want to deal with idiots. And a race baiting ass like Sharpton who will latch on to any thing and blow it out of proportion to stay in the news. Just look at the Tiger Woods incident from two weeks ago. Or the Duke LAX boys. Lots of people would rather not deal with it.

I think this shows that american poilce forces and judges aren't trained well enough to be tough on crime. If you guys need some advice on the topic, don't be afraid to ask. ;)

State District Judge Curt Henderson added several conditions to Morehead-Whitaker's probation that included 180 days in jail, 18 months in an offender re-entry program, house arrest with GPS and electronic monitoring, sex offender treatment and he must obtain a G.E.D.

"It is an extreme probation [that is] almost impossible to make," said Danette Alvarado, Morehead-Whitaker's lawyer. "The conditions are so stringent on it."

However, Claudia Alexander, the executive director of Turning Point, had a different perspective on the judge's conditions.

"It sounds unusual, but it sounds like the judge was trying to make up for the jury," she said.

"This is the most stringent probation I've ever seen," Howard said.
...sounds like he's going to jail anyway.

Insanity?

Fine, section him

no excuse whatsoever, an aggravating factor if anything

Being pressured by someone else? Perhaps not the best excuses in the world, but might be able to get it that low.

Extremely far-fetched and no excuse anyway. Its one thing to be forced to rob, its a different universe, never mind ballgame, to agree to rape someone because you are being pressurised

Musta had one hell of a lawyer.

WTH is that crap? Extreme? huh, that sounds like the easiest probation in the world. Lest go down the list.

1.180 days in jail - easy, check.
2. 18 months in an offender re-entry program - easy, just show up.
3.house arrest with GPS and electronic monitoring - WTH? it doesn't get any easier then setting on your ass at home.
4. sex offender treatment - just show up, easy.
5. must obtain a G.E.D. - seriously guys, c'mon

I just can't see how anyone can look at that and think, wow, thats hard.
