Problems with Gmail

Hi. I'm having this annoying issue that some (but for some reason not all ) e-mails I send from gmail are now no longer part of the "conversation" and actually start a new one, this is extremely irritating, I did not change any settings, this just seemed to start happening today. How do I fix this?

It's so weird, sometimes I'll send a reply & it'll tack it on the end of the convo, other times it'll say "Your message has been sent." but it won't be there & I'll know it's created a new conversation.

I've never seen this. Do you change the subject when you reply?

No, I don't even think I can change the subject. Maybe the other person does...

There is an "edit subject" link in the reply dialog. Perhaps they do that for some reason; I think conversation groupings are mainly done based on subject, though there are probably other factors.

does it matter which email provider the emails come from? Maybe some providers change the subject just a tiny bit and Gmail detects it as different

Re: and FW: tags sometimes end up with Gmail trating it as a new conversation.

It can happen when an email client does non-standard things with the mails. Lotus Notes is especially prone to this.
