Production stop for no reason?

Hello!

Sometimes a very annoying thing occurs to me, which is that the production of essential buildings stop with no visible reason.

For example, 5 turns from completing the Pyramids, a note comes up and says that "you cannot continue building the Pyramids, what would you like to work on next?". I know this happens when somebody else gets there first, but nothing says that "The Pyramids have been built in a far away land" or anything similar. This also happens sometimes when building monuments.

This makes me very irritated!

What is this all about????

well, with just your word it's quite hard to say anything. WOuld you have a save so that people could try to reproduce it? Or screenshots showing exactly what happens?

Are you sure you haven't researched the tech which blocks those buildings/got into later era?

For the pyramid, it means as you already knew, someone had beaten you to it. Sometimes the the message got delay, or you might have missed the message.

As for monuments, it happen when you get Astronomy (or calendar for older versions). If the tech obsolete the building, then you can't build them anymore, the old ones you have built are still exist tho. But why build monuments anymore when you have reached the age of Astronomy

For the Pyramids, you can check the screen with wonders and best cities. It should show whether a wonder has been built even if you have not met the civ, it just won't indicate where it was built. The log has the info too, though I'm not certain whether it lags when the normal screen message lags.

The log does not lag. The messages are added to the log instantly, but will be delayed for display sometimes (i guess to give the player time to read them...).

I think the message only comes the turn after some other civ completes the wonder.

Two reasons you'll get that message, fellow traveler:

An AI has beaten you to it - sucks to be you -

You switched production of the same wonder to another city and completed it there. Then the original city building it will cash in the gold it already spent building it before you switched, and you also get the message.
