Progressive MP game thread

Turn taken, over to my partner in crime, Magnus.

All - please rename the save to remove the postfix with the turn number and player name so we are just replacing the same file over and over, or else the history will build up lots of filenames
 
My turn does not load. I've tried four times now, CTD's in the same spot - as far as I can tell. After the screen with the ten vignettes comes up and the music has been on for a while. The progress bar gets to - but never advances beyond - Initializing, just slightly to the right of the bottom corner of the hard drive pic.

For the initial try, I cleared the UserSettings folder to default. After that crash, I deleted and replaced with the one from the SVN. After the second crash, I deleted everything in the mod folder and replaced with a fresh copy of r9445. After the third crash, I replaced the default UserSettings with the one from the SVN.

This is confusing. This is the exact same setup as I has that loaded fine earlier. The only change is that the save game that Koshling provided was name shortened. Why would that affect things?

I'm going to restart the computer just to see if it is an issue with my memory or something.

Maybe I used the wrong version. I used the assets (including dll) from the mp svn. Is that r9445?
 
Rebooting did not help. Still crashes in the same spot. This makes no sense. Would any of the files in the logs help with this?

That is/may be the wrong version. We were instructed to download r9445 from the main mod SVN for these games.
 
Oh, I missed that. I'll do that and retake - do I need a complete set of assets from 9445 or just need to change the DLL. If the former it won;t be today, but I should be able to make the DLL change quickly.

Edit - I mean obviously it needs to match 9445, but I already have what had been put in the MP SVN a week or so ago - so relative to THAT is it just the DLL I need to update?

Since not truncating the name was one of the suspected reasons we'd been able to get the game to play after handing it off, we weren't doing this until a round through. Once we get a full round through we were going to see if we could get away with it. As you can see, this whole thing has been kinda tricky to get to work this time around so we've been reading tea leaves and pigeon guts to get an idea as to how to get around the 'problem'. This was just one place of some small amount of suspicion, unlikely though.

Sounds like y'all got it though so we're on track still :)

The save you posted asks for Theodora's password. Not my turn yet till you fix it. :p And the save list was still on Snowfall.

EDIT: Don't mean to be a "nag", but it's really not hard to check these things before a commit. :cringe::sad:

Screenshot is for T-brd. Notice that No Storms and Multiple Religion Spread are Not Checked. Last minute changes or did I miss something from your set up screenshots. So I can only have 1 Religion and we will have Storms. Duoh!

Also what Game Speed is this? Marathon, Snail? Was supposed to be Epic?

I'll see if I can change them now but that's very odd considering my local showed no storms and multiple religions spread checked because I always play with it that way. I'll see what can be done.

As for the game speed, it's Epic. When your team mate joins you in researching it'll cut your turns to complete the tech roughly in half.

You CAN research the same thing and both of your efforts pour into the tech. If you don't, it'll feel like it takes a long time to get to a tech because as a team tech costs are = to (cost * # of players on the team).

Tech path strategies are one of the primary things you'll need to discuss with your partner.

This is exactly why all players have to put the UserSettings folder from the SVN with the save game file and the turn-list file, and why I mentioned that in the Conservative thread. Because the game itself does not save the BUG settings. Those are determined entirely by the UserSettings folder on the computer of the person playing that specific turn. Trust me, put that UserSettings folder in (delete the current one first) and on your next turn you will see the intended settings.
