Removing all the interesting promotions into perks and only making a couple of tiny 10% boosts available as promotions is a big step backwards from CiV, I feel.
It was much more interesting and personal with your own specialized army forged through combat in CiV, losing an elite unit cut right through the heart! In BE your units are all faceless. They have no character and losing one hardly matters as you can instantly build an identical one to throw into the battle.

It would be nice if the promotions were tweaked a bit too, so that 'new recruits' was like +80 hp, or maybe even just full HP, and the strength increase was like +20hp.

Because at the moment I often feel rail-roaded into picking +50hp because I *need* the unit to be healed. If you got a moderate level of healing from the veterancy it would make it a more viable option.

The issue I find with promotions is that it seems too easy to heal, as consuming a heal does not add to amount of promotions a unit has. I often run around with level 1 and 2 units, as their staying power in combat seems stronger than level 3 units. In Civ 5 your unit would survive longer, but the trade off was that getting to the next promotion rank took that much longer, which led to eventually losing units when the heal was too far off.

Often times I am able to heal a unit up and either keep pressing on the attack, or falling back and healing to full, having done damage to the enemy and letting other troops clean up the line.

When a unit gets to level 3 though, that is when they no longer progress in xp (without a wonder) These units seem more likely to die though at 30% increased strength it they will need to be in a bad situation.
