Pure Civ3 4.0 (a rule mod for Vanilla Civ3)

For anyone who may remember me, I posted a rule mod for Vanilla Civ 3 here awhile back (which eventually grew to version 3.0). Since then, I've discovered quite a few things about it that were, well, bad. So, I finally got around to preparing a version 4.0, as well as giving it a name (Pure Civ3).

I'm just about done as of right now. I can't officially release it until I get done going through the Civilopedia and updating it to reflect all the new changes. In the meantime, however, the .bic file is posted on my site along with the readme file which lists all of the changes made by the mod, and details my reasons for making them.

It's de-linked from my homepage at the moment, so here's a direct link:

Any feedback would be appreciated. I may be slow to respond, however, as I'm about to leave town for a week.

Thanks!

Nobody plays Vanilla anymore. But congratulations on finishing your new version anyway. :)

Yeah, I think my mistake is advertising this as a mod FOR Vanilla civ, since it works just as well with Conquests installed (even though it technically "reverts" the game back to Vanilla).

The whole point is that I feel my mod creates a more balanced game than either the original or the expanded game.

Madmax51 I play C3V, and am very interested. I'll be inspecting it, and let you know what I think.

Thank ye :)

I read through your web page and overall I like your ideas. Several of the ideas are things I had already thought of and added to my module, so we seem to be thinking alike.
There are some things I don't get though.
In New tech prerequisites you say you are requiring, for example, Horseback Riding & Monarchy for Chivalry.
I have 1.29f and the editor will not allow one to choose techs from previous eras as prerequisites, so is this really what you mean?

Yeah, it's really what I mean.

You have to trick the editor to make it allow tech prerequisites from previous eras. In Conquests, even my workaround was removed (which is quite possibly one of the largest beefs that I have with Conquests).

Some of your changes seem weird (Theory of Gravity -> Gravity Theory, motorized transportation -> motorization, science method ? What's the point? (plus the dodgy grammar, which you then go on to laugh at the civlopedia for)

I also disagree with the massive emphasis you've put on iron. Might as well start over if you don't have any (even more so than in the normal game)

But you've clearly put a lot of work into this and some of the changes are very nice.

It's to make the names of the techs fit inside their display bozes without showing ellipses.

Yes, I suffer from a very bad case of OCD.

I'm not sure to what you're referring, actually. I tend to be sort of a grammar Nazi, actually. It's part of the OCD.

Yes, but by the time it gets REALLY important, odds are that you already have some. Remember that the appearance ratio for Iron is 1.6 to 1.

But you've clearly put a lot of work into this and some of the changes are very nice.

Thank you :)

One last bump to see if I can get anymore feedback.

And yes, I'm aware that the majority of people here don't play Vanilla Civ3 anymore, but I'm looking for objective opinions for this mod based strictly on what it is, rather than what it is not.

That... didn't make much sense.
