So I am playing a little hempispheres game with two continents. This game I am playing unrestricted leaders using Brenus and Persia. I am on noble diff wich is no biggie for most ppl but is usually tough for me I alway end up lagging into middle of pack and have to fight my way up but this time its going pretty good for me.
Only neighbor on my continent is Asoka of Greece and my immortals take him before he can even start to make a phalanx. Sitting Bull of the dutch ends up on a largish island right next to me but I take him out easy so I have a LARGE area all to myself and I notice hey I got 3 cities going pretty strong culture wise and I have NEVER gotten a culture win before not just in BtS but I have never gotten it on Warlords or Vanilla either. I have done space win once and a couple of diplo wins and even a one AP win butnot for awhile most times I either get domination or conquest. So I figure it will be nice to get a peace win for a change. I think I will just turtle up on my continent and big island and build peacefully and get it no problem.
Well I finnally start meeting the civs on the other continent. Alex, Nappy, and Monty. I am thinking well so much for THAT idea. I KNOW sooner or later at least one of them is gonna start feeling froggy and take a jump at me. I also met poor Mehmed. Apparently he already had enough of those guys for neighbors since by time I meet him he has packed up his toys and moved to a 2 tile island after giving most of his cities to nappy and some to monty hten becoming Nappys lapdog.
But I notice each of those 3 has a diff religion so I am hoping they will stay at each others throats and just fight it out over then on the lunatic continent and leave me alone. I manage to get open borders and some resource trading going with Alex since he is being most reasonable of the 3 but he still isnt too found of me.
For a change I am actually ahead in tech so Monty and Nappy keep trying to make demands on me since even though I am ahead in tech I am behind them in power level but I keep saying well you're on another continent and cant get me yet so nyah nyah
Now I KNOW that wont last forever so I start working on a navy and a plan while STILL hoping to last long enough for a cultural win. And sure enough after awhile I notice Nappy has a HUGE stack of caravals and galleons heading STRAIGHT for my continent.
Well I figure better him than monty since nappy is closer to me in power than monty. And I get lucky. Right bout this time Alex switches from hinduism to free religion and not having any religous probs with me anymore he actually moves up to pleased with me. And he is willing to go to war with Nappy just for guilds and music which everybody else already has anyways. I also see he willing to stop trading with monty for some gold (and ppl say Cathy is a cheap date hehe) so I get Alex to do that too and hope it ticks off Monty enough and I can get em all fighting each other and leave me alone.
My army isnt all that strong but my navy is no slouch cuz I prioritized that over land units and had a nice stack of frigates and ships of the line so with Alex getting Nappy from the back I declare on nappy and sink his megastack which must have had TONS of solders in it cuz his power drops BIG time after that.
I am STILL trying for a culture win so I figure best way to get is is to go in take a couple of Nappys cities and get him to beg for peace. I also figure wiping out as many of his best coastal cities is best way to keep him from sending any more mega navy stacks my way.
So a little time goes buy while I build my invasion force but its no problem Alex is holding his own. he and nappy seem to be fighting over the same city since just one city keeps switching back and forth. Monty has gotten quiet but I figure thats good he maybe he is planning to dogpile on Nappy.
Nappy has muskets and Knights but I have curriasers and grenadiers so i am feeling cocky and I take over his three best coastal cities and raise all his other coastal cities. I even take a little detour and put mehmed out of his misery with a mercy killing of his one city on his lil island hehe.
Now my military lead seems pretty solid and I AM trying to get my first cultural victory so instead of rifling I have actually been going for steampower and then railroad BUT its also part of plan in case Monty tries to be mean and picks on me instead of being nice and helping me by dogpiling on Nappy.
Sure enough I dont know how but he has frigates AND grenadiers AND ships of th eline and TONS of em and I guess he has been paying attention to the fight too because even though he can make knights which are no prob for my curiassers he comes in with just a few knights and a BIG honking herd of elephants. he appears and says The world isnt big enough for both of us JUST as I raise one last inner city to take the culture pressure off those three before I give Nappy a chance for peace so most of my invasion force is out in open. Not that it would matter much anyways since those three cities arent even out of anarchy yet. So he kills my invasion force and steals my new cities I got fair and square from Nappy and starts beating up on my navy

Monty must have been planning for me from get go it seems. For long time Curiiasers been my best units at this point so not only did he bring along TONS of elephants but they were combat 2 formation elephants and my curiassers went face down faster than Lindsay Lohan at a open bar. So whether he planned it or just picked a lucky build choice that happened to be perfect counter for me he did make one teeny mistake--he #%$&ing ticked me off >

And I DID have a plan. While beeling more for RR to help my infra structure instead of going rifling first DID put combustion only a tech away. AND I was saving my pennies. While my frigates were keeping Monty's navy at bay I zipped to combustion ASAP. And I had a plan. As soon as I saw the first civ start resarching astronomy I calle dhome every privateer I had who all this time been using Alex's triemes and cravals for target practice getting easy promotions and I noticed I had a city sitting on oil when I git SM so I didnt even have to wait to build a well. As soon as I finished all those privateers became level 4 5 and even a couple of level 6 destroyers. They took care of his navy and then ALL camped out on his coast picking off any ship that popped its head out while I researched rifling
Soon rifleman and calvary start visiting Monty's cities. I didnt even worry about cannons or trebs. My destoyers took out the coastal cities here most of his units were and then I just uses numbers to finish off the innner ones with brute force and numbers. I was transpoting over new calvery as fast as they could get built so my numbers were always pretty decent and I didnt have to slow down my calvary took em and then my rifleman walked in behind and kept em.
I wasnt even thinking bout Nappy or culture victory-- just about making Monty wish he never EVEN thought bout picking on me. After I took over about half his cities it dawned on me oohhh cripes my culture victory. I was actually getting a little too close to domination victory now for comfort. So I raised Monty down 2 two lil cities pillaged EVERY single improvement around him I could and then around all the cities I rasied so even if he resettled em he would have to build everything all over and then made him my lap dog and mad ehim give me all his gold and as much gold per turn as he could offer and just to kick him a lil more I saw I forgot to pillage a pasture so he still had cows andI made him hand over the cows even though I had 9 of em already hehe.
By this time the war weariness was over 2000 with Monty my cities were all popping with read faces and my tech rate and culture and everything else was kind of in a shambles so it was a pain getting all that striatend back out (luckily Brennus is spritual so going out of the war civics back to peace time ones isnt painful) and Nappy still had to be dealt with. And I took so much of Monty's land and making him be my lapdog instead of letting him off easy and just wipping him out totally has my land area now pushing 63% and at 64 domination victory will kick in and I STILL want my culture victory cuz I am gonna win PEACEFULLY this time dang it. . So I am probably going to have to grant independence to the 10 cities on th ebig island that used to be sitting bull's empire before it became a suburb of Kaytieland. And I HATE doing that.
But it was all worth it to put Monty in his place. Before he decalred on me he was in control of Islam the second beiggest religion in the world and had the worlds most powerful army and now he isnt even a suburb of Kaytieland he is my lap dog hehe And the VERY next turn after I made him capitualte. I see thse two messages:
"Montezuma converts to buddhism"
"Montezuma adopts pacifism"
He got whipped so bad he went from Islamic Jihadist to Buddhist Pacifist

i think he's read on the boards that if you're spiritual you should leverage that and change civics for wartime. but he doesn't quite understand what that means. in one vanilla game, i had him down to 2 or 3 cities. all of his workers were hiding inside the cities of course, scared as could be. so what did he do? he adopted Serfdom 
. i guess maybe they could hide 50% more efficiently that way? total nutcase!
