This is a formal request for all CFC Forum personnel.

(Dont know if this is the correct section for this??)

:help: But anyways WE (C2C) needs 2 or more python personnel to work on C2C presently :help:

Or for that matter we also need C++ personnel also, and well just all around knowledgeable personnel in the field of XML also.

But we need a PYTHON person really really really badly, we currently only have 1 and he is soooo darn busy, i have been waiting for stuff (at least some of it) for over 3 years now, so please even is you can only do so much, give it a try, thx. . . SO

I learnt python a few months ago, though rather basic to intermediate stuff. I'm not sure what I could do to help.
XML is probably simpler :p

I doubt there are even 5 python modders left who are not already working on their own mod :D

Well, I would love to help, C++ and python... Problem is I too am very busy, I have the civ5 xml checker to work on, my own mod for civ5, Jamie's Rome Mod, college (A levels), then university stuff... I just don't have any time left these days :(

To be fair, Civ 4 is a pretty old game.

True but how about this

and now 120,000ish and still growing:p:D

Sure, but to my knowledge nobody made a better game engine for modding.

I would say 0 because a person not working on a mod can't be a modder :lol::p

However this is the main reason why I didn't reply. I would love to help, but I have the same problem and have my hands full with coding tasks. I joined Medieval Conquest last year and as I realized the lack of modders and proposed joining all effort on one DLL source code and one set of python files. The differences in the mods should be kept, and should be done by XML only, if possible. Everybody agreed and the concept appears to be working and we get maximum out of each hour spend on DLL/python. As a bonus people can start brand new mods without having coders, which has already started one mod and possibly one more on the way.

The key seems to be resource management. If you can't get the people you want, you will have to start thinking how you reach as much as possible of your goal with the people you do have. Sadly I can't tell you how to do that and you can't copy the solution I came up with. You will have to think about this yourself.
However do remember that there is also the issue that not all coders wants to be assigned to all tasks. If a coder is assigned to a task they don't want to do or can't do, then they might leave, specially if a refusal is ignored. Managing hobby coders can be tricky.

I'm sad to hear C2C isn't doing well regarding developers. I'm impressed with the development so far and really hope it will continue this well. I have looked a bit at the code and it looks interesting enough to take a closer look. It's just a shame the svn server is that slow

We at C2C do NOT assign projects or things to do, we ask if certain items can be done is all.

If you dont want to do anything, its OK with US at C2C, Everyone there just helps out with what time they have on any projects that might be out there already. Main reason for this is just like you wrote, people dont like being informed when to have a certain thing done, so we dont.

Currently we have 1 person that has been on a project now for 2-3 years and thats all he is doing, nothing else. If he gets done with it, good, if not, nothing lost because we never had it to begin with.

I have had alot of the python help i need now "asked for" and not received from them for some projects for 3-4 years now, no biggy. They get to it fine, again if not nothing lost.

We dont ask for things to get done fast EXCEPT "bugs/crashes." They are a must.

Here is a list of personnel we have now:

Good. The reason why I pointed it out is because I experienced that behavior. All of a sudden after years of development, a small group (or one person) decided that the open task list needed to be solved and tasks were just assigned to people without their consent and then people should hurry finishing what they had and better not make anything else. Thinking nobody wanted to leave, the plan would fix all long time known bugs. It didn't really take into account that some of them were in the "nobody knows how to fix this bug" category. It turned out to be more efficient at reducing team size than fixing bugs. I wouldn't have warned against this if I didn't experience it. In fact I wouldn't have come up with forcing tasks on people without their consent in the first place as it is far from my way of thinking.

I didn't mean to criticize C2C (I have no reason to). I just wanted to give feedback on how to deal with lack of developer. I read the first post as C2C having a serious problem due to having new features in DLL, which doesn't work because it lacks the manpower to enable the features in python. The last post makes me think I misread the first one. I'm happy to see you do not have the crisis I first thought. All I can say now is what seem to be the most important part in attracting more modders is to have active development and a good mod. You are doing great in both regards meaning I fear there is little more you can do to attract new people.
