I generally tried to make quests more interactive with lasting, unique rewards to make them feel like they are helping shape the colony.

I tried to design some quests around hybrid affinities, where the options are, for example, Purity, Purity / Supremacy, and Supremacy rather than the three core affinities.

These are intended to come later in the game, and my goal with them is to highlight the distinct philosophies of each hybrid.

As (city) grows, a dispute has arisen on the local forests. some call for them to be cut down for additional space to expand, while others wish to preserve them. How should we proceed?

Event

None. Must have a city with forests in it's borders.
_______________________________________

Harmony

1. Preserve the forests with a national parks program.

2. Perform an expedition on a forest to collect information for the program.

3. Study mutations in surviving plants. Construct an expedition over Miasmic Overgrowth.

Reward

Study of the local forests for the national parks program has yielded some surprising discoveries that could spur our advancement and our knowledge of this world. The information should also help keep our citizens safe in the forests, allowing them to be safely admired.

+1 Science and +2 Culture from forests.

Gain a large one time Culture and Science bonus. + Harmony affinity points.
________________________________________________________

Purity

1. P/S Cut down all forests in (city)'s territory.

2. P/S The work is done, but the foliage was surprisingly dense and difficult to clear. In the future should we prioritize better clearing methods or compact cities that require less space?

3. Choose to prioritize better clearing methods.

Reward

Our experience with the deforesting project has led to both improvements in clearing methods and better utilization of the byproducts of the projects. Local weeds will not impede our progress!

Forests can be cleared in half the usual time and grant triple their usual Production bonus.

Forests now grant food when cleared.

Receive a one time food and production boost. + Purity affinity points.
__________________________________________________________________

Supremacy

1. P/S Cut down all forests in (city)'s territory.

2. P/S The work is done, but the foliage was surprisingly dense and difficult to clear. In the future should we prioritize better clearing methods or compact cities that require less space?

3. Choose to prioritize compact cities.

Reward

Studies in infrastructure that uses less space has led to a general increase in efficiency in our colony.

+1 Production and +1 Energy in all cities.

Receive a one time energy and production boost. +Supremacy affinity points.

Building the Future

Formerly named Secure Compounds and No One Thing.
___________________________________

When our people first came to this planet, we brought with us stockpiles of rare Earth metals, with which to build our new home. After years on this planet, these small supplies are dwindling.

Industrial leaders have come forward with three proposals for investment: synthesize Earth metals that are scarce here, utilize renewable organic materials, or fund the research of new potential construction materials.

Event

None.
__________________________

Harmony

1. Invest in the research of organic construction materials.

2. Improve four sources of coral, shells, chitin, or resilin.

Reward

Though extremely unorthodox, the organic materials project has enabled the creation of sturdy structures out of completely renewable organic sources. As an added benefit they are naturally immune to the miasmic corrosion that plagued earlier architecture.

+2 Production from improved sources of Coral, Shells, Chitin, and Resilin. + Harmony affinity points.

___________________________________

Purity

1. Invest in synthesizing rare Earth metals from local minerals.

2. Build an Alloy Foundry.

Reward

Months of research have lead to surprising success! We now have the ability to convert Alien minerals into Earth-like metals. Through human ingenuity, we've preserved our people's way of life.

Alloy Foundries no longer require a nearby source of Titanium and grant +3 Production. + Purity affinity points.
__________________________________

Supremacy

1. Choose to invest in experimental construction materials.

2. Build three Thorium Reactors to fuel the research.

Reward

Our scientists have discovered a new stone within this planet’s sediment. Dubbed “Lattice Ore,” this stone takes on a crystalline structure when electrically charged. Our first cities to erect these plants are already building sturdier structures at a fraction of the cost.

+4 Production from Quarries. + Supremacy affinity points.

(Quarries only improve Basalt.)

Familiar Exotics
__________________________

When we came to this planet, we brought a number of plants from old Earth. Somehow, one of these plants has taken root outside of [city] and turned invasive.

If left unchecked, it could convert the local environment into a more Earth-like ecosystem. Whether or not that is a good thing, must be decided …

Event

Terran Overgrowth appears on three adjacent tiles in your territory - no yield or improvement effect.
__________________________

Harmony

1. Stop the spread. Remove the overgrowth with a worker.

2. The plant is resilient. Research Alien Ecology and cover it in Miasma.

3. Study mutations in surviving plants. Construct an expedition over Miasmic Overgrowth.

Reward

Study of the mutated plants has led to the development a new xeno-terra hybrid crop that thrives in this environment while posing no threat to it.

Gain a large one time Food and Science bonus in the Capital. + Harmony affinity points.

Farms adjacent to cities give +1 Food.
___________________________________

Purity

1. P/S Observe and do nothing. Wait several turns.

2. Study the growth of the plant. Construct an Expedition and launch a Miasmic Repulsor over it.

3. Use the growth as a basis for a Terraforming project. Research Terraforming and construct Terrascapes over the growth site.

Reward

This incident has given us invaluable insights into how terran flora reacts to this new atmosphere. The knowledge gained will greatly enhance the production of Earth crops, feeding the bellies and lifting the spirits of our colonists.

Gain a large one time Culture and Food bonus. + Purity affinity points.

The Terrascapes constructed for the quest cost 3 less Energy to maintain.

Farms give +1 Culture.
__________________________________

Supremacy

1. P/S Observe and do nothing. Wait several turns.

Cultural Burden

We have located the signal’s origin – A probe belonging to the [Sponsor] crashed in a swamp of Xenomass. The [Sponsor] never reached our new planet and their status remains a mystery.

Recovering the probe may provide answers to their ultimate fate. However, doing so will likely contaminate the Xenomass, making the rare material unfit for use. Leaving the probe undisturbed will protect the potentially valuable resource.

Event

A crashed satellite appears on a nearby Xenomass tile.

_____________

Harmony

1. Preserve the Xenomass. Remove the probe by constructing an expedition on the site.

2. The Xenomass unexpectedly absorbed certain microbes from the Probe and can now mimic the effect of its fuel. Research Alien Sciences and construct a Xenowell on the site for further study.

3. Pioneer a new Xenomass-based fuel. Construct a Xeno Fuel Plant.

Reward

Our Xenofuel program has proven to be wildly successful and efficient. This technology will revolutionize our economy in a way we could not have imagined. What other wonders could this planet hold?

Gain a large one time Energy bonus. + Harmony affinity points.

+4 Energy from Xenowells and Alien Nests. Xenowell maintenance cost removed.
___________________

Purity

1. P/S Recover the probe at the cost of the Xenomass.

Construct an expedition over the site, then choose to recover records or the technical log.

2. Save the records. On their way to the new planet,

[Sponsor]’s unique technology failed, leaving them adrift in space. With no other options, they sent a probe ahead as a distress beacon, hoping it would be discovered in time for help to be sent.

Fortunately for them, clues in the log have given us a good idea of where to look. Research Physics and build an Observatory and a Launch Complex to locate the lost vessel.

3. Construct and launch a Rescue Vessel to save any survivors.

Reward

Though their vessel could not be recovered, we were able to bring many of their survivors to safety. With little but their lives left to them, they gratefully integrate into our colony. We now work together with a unity of purpose and a bond forged by trial.

Gain a one time Culture bonus. + Purity affinity points.

Gain the rescued faction's sponsor bonus. A free Settler appears in the Capitol.

(Defaultly has the name of that faction's capital. Sponsor bonus is random if all
Sponsors are present, claiming a yet unused city name for that Sponsor. The new sponsor bonus upgrades alongside your current one.)
_______________________

Supremacy

1. P/S Recover the probe at the cost of the Xenomass.

Construct an expedition over the site, then choose to recover records or technology.

2. Recover technical log.

The vessel that launched the probe was constructed with incredible, cutting-edge technology. Unfortunately, it seems that its nature as a prototype led to an engineering flaw that doomed the vessel.

Research Computing and Engineering to begin the recovery of damaged data storage components.

3. Construct a Repair Facility to complete the reverse-engineering project.

Reward

The insights from this technology are nothing short of incredible. Our reverse engineering project has illuminated new possibilities for future research. We had no idea that they possessed this kind of technology.

Gain a one time Science boost. + Supremacy affinity points.

Gain 50% research progress on Robotics, Fabrication, and Mechatronics technologies. +20% Tile improvement rate.

Occupational Hazard

It's clear that the indigenous species of this planet may pose a threat to our growth. Though we cannot determine their intelligence, their hostility has been documented.

Moving forward, we must decide how to deal with them. Do we attempt to domesticate the local wildlife or exterminate it?

Event

None
_________________________________

Harmony

1. H/S Try to domesticate the Aliens. Research Alien Lifeforms and construct an Alien Preserve.

2. H/S Expand territorial borders to cover an Alien Nest.

3. Choose Adopt Wildlife.

3. Choose Restore their Humanity. Research Genetic Design and construct a Gene Garden to complete the process.

Reward

The new Gene Garden has made it nearly possible to regrow an entire body from a subject's DNA. The innovation has kickstarted a new appreciation for human anatomy. Given the choice, many Augmentists have chosen to undergo a procedure to replace their bionic features with freshly grown human organs. Welcome back, brothers - May we never forget our original forms.

+10% population growth in all cities. +3 Culture from

Gene Gardens. + Purity affinity points.
_____________________________

Supremacy

1. P/S Choose to welcome them into your colony.

The lastest model of a home assistant robot- the product of a popular appliance manufacturer- has developed sentience and are no longer content to live as servants. We must address this quickly.

Event

None
_________________________________

Purity

1. Choose to destroy the robots. A hostile city appears near your territory.

2. Destroy the robot city. (Spawns CNDR units.)

Reward

Sentient machines pose a serious threat to mankind, and no machine could truly possess a soul or be trusted with true autonomy. The destruction was swift and harmless to our citizens, and research of the robots' remains has shown us how to avoid the sentience bug. These studies have also advanced our safe, non-sentient AI technologies.

+3 Science from Institutes. + Purity affinity points.
______________________________________

Purity / Supremacy

1. Choose to limit the AIs and grant them partial citizenship.

2. Construct three Autoplant to better utilize their service.

Reward

Humanity's machines must serve humanity, but it would be a waste of their potential to limit these AIs to mundane servant-hood. They will now live among us as second class citizens, serving the colony that created them. The new laws of robotics that we have programmed into them will keep us safe and in charge.

+3 Production from Autoplants. + Purity and Supremacy affinity points.
________________________________

Supremacy

1. Grant their request for sovereignty by settling a new city for the robots.

2. Initiate three Trade Routes with the new city.

Reward

As it turns out, having robotic neighbors comes with special advantages. The mechanical citizens of (city) generate most of their own energy, and use only a fraction of what's produced by their city. With relations to the rest of the colony restored, they agree to donate their excess power to their neighboring cities.

+5 Energy from internal trade routes to the robot city. + Supremacy affinity points.

An influential transhumanist in (city) has proposed the construction of an advanced NeuroLab, a facility that can house human consciousnesses inside a large computer network, to advance their vision of an uploaded, virtual society.

This has sparked an ideological debate amongst our people between those who share their vision and those who view uploading as a death with the creation of a crude copy. The latter argue that the research funding could be better spent elsewhere, on more traditional augmentation technologies.

Event

None
_________________________________

Harmony

1. Choose to sponsor genetic studies.

2. Construct two Gene Smelters.

Reward

Genetic technologies was clearly the wiser choice, amplifying our capacity and self-replications without the dubious ethical questions of uploading. The resulting increase in health and vitality has led to a population boom.

+20% food and population growth from Gene Smelters. + Harmony affinity points.
______________________________________

Supremacy / Harmony

1. Attempt to satisfy both groups by sponsoring cybernetic and genetic augmentation.

2. Construct an Optical Surgery and a Gene Smelter in the same city.

Reward

What began as a political stunt for the two transhumanist camps yielded remarkable results. By combining cybernetic and genetic augmentation, we can break the limits of either method.

+5% Science, +5% food, and +5% population growth from optical surgeries, gene smelters, and augmentaries.

+ Supremacy and Harmony affinity points.
_______________________________________________

Supremacy

1. Choose to sponsor the Neurolab.

2. Build a Neurolab in the city.

3. Launch a Satellite containing the uploaded citizens to the more suitable environment of space.

Reward

From the stars, everything becomes clear. No distractions - only focus: The digital citizens of (city) become its shepherds, controlling its machinery, and watching over those who still live on the ground.

Our scouts have detected ruins of previous, failed colonies on this planet. It would seem that attempted settlements began long before we arrived. We should investigate these ruins to learn their history and origins, and what we can learn from their failure.

Triggers upon sighting a Derelict Settlement.

Common Objectives

1. Construct an expedition on a Derelict Settlement.

2. Communication logs revealed the locations of other failed colonies. Construct expeditions on them as well. Warning - logs suggest elevated Alien hostility among the ruins. It would appear that a failed Ultrasonic Fence system drove the Aliens into a frenzy, dooming the colonies they were constructed to protect.

3. After fighting through hostile natives near the other Derelict Settlements and finishing your expeditions, choose how to deal with them.

Harmony

Choose to quickly disassemble the colony to put an immediate end to the still-active Ultrasonic Fence.

Reward

The Ultrasonic Fences made the colonies a threat to everyone, but their salvage will provide our colony with invaluable resources. Let this be a lesson to all that we must cautiously respect the local lifeforms.

A free Settler and Worker appear in your capitol city. Workers may now remove and salvage Derelict Settlements for a one time Production boost.

Gain large one time Production boost in your capitol. + Harmony affinity points.

Purity

Choose to memorialize the Derelict Settlements to ensure that their brave, though unsuccessful colonization efforts are not forgotten.

Reward

It is a great tragedy that these colonies failed, but they will live on in our memory. Study of their records has also revealed some useful practices that can be adopted in our own colonization efforts.

Workers may now construct Colonial Memorials on Derelict Settlements, granting +10 Culture and -3 Energy.

Adopt three free Virtues. + Purity affinity points.

Supremacy

Choose to commission a thorough and intensive study on the technology and research efforts of the Derelict Settlements.

Reward

These colonies may have failed to endure on this hostile world, but their admirable efforts led to technological breakthroughs. Though they are gone, their progress will live on through us.

Gain two random ring 1 Technologies. Workers may now remove and salvage Derelict Settlements for a one time Production boost.

Gain a large one-time Science boost. + Supremacy affinity points.

Affinity Wars
_______________________________________________________

In the spirit of controversy, quests will begin to appear asking members of one affinity to declare war on and capture a city of a strong member of another affinity.

Hybrids with a piece of both affinities may choose which to side with.

If such a war begins, colonies sharing an affinity with the attacked colony will receive a quest to defend them.

These quests give fairly generic energy, science, and culture rewards, but are meant to stir the pot and encourage Affinity wars.

This is the list of quasi-news reports that announce the Affinity war quests:

Harmony vs Purity

Harmonist protests escalate against the Alien ranching business centered in [Purity city], describing it as inhumane against such intelligent creatures. Purists defend the industry, claiming that the Harmonists are foolishly humanizing simple beasts. Harmonist and Purist tensions escalate.

Harmony vs Supremacy

Recent ecological reports over the [Supremacy city] industrial site have stirred a wave of outrage from Harmonists, who decry it as ecologically devastating and demand that harsh regulations be adopted. Supremacists claim that the Harmonists are overstating the ecological impact, and describe it as a small sacrifice in the name of progress. Harmonist and Supremacist tensions escalate.

Purity vs Harmony

An unexpected wind recently blew large swaths of miasma originating from the territory of [Harmony city] into a Purist settlement, causing an epidemic of miasma poisoning. Purists demand that the city take steps to thin its miasma clouds to prevent this from happening again, while Harmonists claim that the miasma is essential to the local ecosystem and should be adapted to. Purist and Harmonist tensions escalate.

Purity vs Supremacy

[Supremacy city]'s mandatory augmentations program has sparked protests from Purists, who claim that children should not be augmented at least until they can make the decision on their own. Supremacists defend the child augmentation program as minor and purely benign, ensuring that their vital organs remain healthy and arguing that it would be cruel to allow anyone to deny them these augmentations. Purist and Supremacist tensions escalate.

Supremacy vs Harmony

After an incident where aliens from a wildlife preserve near [Harmony city] wandered into and damaged Supremacy infrastructure, Supremacists call for a heavily reinforced border to the preserve. Harmonists claim that it would be harmful to the local ecosystem, and that the aliens are no threat when treated properly with infrastructure properly safeguarded against them. Supremacist and Harmonist tensions escalate.

Supremacy vs Purity

A new wave of locally unpopular augmentation bans and regulations in [Purity city] spurred a wave of Supremacist protests. They describe the laws as backwards and draconian, while Purists defend them as important for public safety and health against dangerous augmentations. Supremacist and Purist tensions escalate.

This is an INCREDIBLE improvement idea to the Ultrasonic fence. The amount of extra depth this would add to Alien management/relevancy gives me tingles!!!!:goodjob::goodjob:

I like the idea of each Affinity using the technology differently to push them into interacting with them differently.

Hey Galgus. I'm trying to build a list of the new tech web, emphasizing the branch techs with 2 affinities on them. Do you happen to know if there was a video that showed the entire tech web? I think having a list like that would help make more of these quests.

I don't know of a video with the complete new tech web, I haven't really looked for it in their videos.

I'm not opposed to suggesting changes to the tech web with quest ideas where the web makes no sense.

For example, Alien Genetics being Purity aligned and Organ Printers being Supremacy aligned with a science boost for their yield for some reason.

I'll keep looking. I'm only missing the outer techs.

The only conceivable reason I can see Purity wanting Alien Genetics is "know thy enemy" but it would make much more sense as a Harmony tech. Also, Autogyros STILL make no sense as the prereq. for CARVRs. I'd rather it be moved somewhere under Fabrication and Fabrication be made a P/S tech.

That would be an improvement, though I'd prefer it if players did not need to research specific techs to advance in affinity.
______________________

Thematically I'm having some trouble coming up with new quest ideas that incorporate hybrids.

I'd kind of like to try a set with a hybrid / core / other hybrid model, but I'm not sure what would fit.

Fundamentally I think that giving the hybrids their own quest options later in the game would help define them as their own philosophy - like a secondary color rather than two splotches of primary colors.
_______________________________________

On a more mechanical note, I'm worried that the bonuses for late quests may not be fitting or impactful enough.

Some Core v. one or the other general ideas

Harmony... How to modify population
more towards the environment itself-H,
more super human-HP,
more 'technologically best', best fit for industry-HS

Harmony... How to modify environment
more towards maintaining native life-H,
more towards an ideal environment to enjoy-HP,
more towards the best for extraction-HS

Purity...How to deal with environmentally toxic area...
Change the environment-P (build Terrascapes? Workers clear miasma)
Modify humans to survive it-HP (build buildings in city)
Seal humans up, send drones to work there-PS (build Domes)

Purity..new technology is resulting in unemployment in a large segment of the economy
start programs on 'the human touch' to improve human success in that area-P
study neurogenetics of best people in the field to develop enhancement therapies-PH
adopt it broadly so that all can benefit-PS

Supremacy?? not sure, may edit in later

The Harmony one feels like its a restating of the P/H centered one on genetic studies, it doesn't seem to fit P/S well.

The Purity one may work better, though I think the Purity vs P/S element would be best represented as terraforming the area vs building domes.

Sending drones to handle it sounds too similar to a Purity response, which isn't averse to mere drones in my opinion.

I've always kind of seen Purity as being driven to change the world while Purity / Supremacy is more content to build their shining cities and shut out the rest of the world.

I'll try designing that quest later, though feel free to design your own version.

I really like the Dance of Life. I think it correctly captures the divergence of the three.

And I much prefer your version of Soild State Citizen. I hate how callous Harmony is portrayed in many of their quests. This one in particular. "Kill the interlopers!".... Really? I guarantee that whoever was directing the original quest dialogue was a Purist or Purist/Supremacist. The idea of helping them establish their own niche feels more like how I picture Harmony.

I think that part of the difficulty with a hybrid/core/hybrid quest is that the hybrids are built from the intersection of the affinities: genetics and improving the human genome, fabrication and engineering, and mass transhumanism. So finding a theme in a Core affinity that could split 3 ways into 2 different hybrids proves challenging.

The best I can come up with would be some sort of S/H - H - H/P debate with either a newly discovered species with unique properties and what to do with it. S/H might want to disect it and learn how to harness it's code for further their own augmentations. Harmony would want to protect them and choose to give them their space. Meanwhile H/P takes an interest in their uniqueness and starts trying to domesticate and nudge their evolution with earth code.

One of my goals with the quests was to try to preserve some moral equivalence between the affinity options.

I agree completely that the old Harmony option for Solid State Citizen was needlessly callous.

On the flip side in the An Elemental Fate quest that is too soft sci-fi for my tastes Harmony is the only affinity to send a rescue team, while the other two affinities seem to basically ignore lost soldiers.

From what I can tell from interviews, the lead designers seem...unsympathetic to Purity. I think I remember them calling it "crazy" when talking about creating hybrids with it.

Somewhat off-topic, I've been using these music tracks as inspiration for P/S, H/P, and S/H.

(I've been on a Megaman ZX Advent music kick.)
____________________________________

I tried to design hybrid/core/hybrid quests around issues that may be particularly important for the core affinity in question, which the other affinities either don't care about or have an immovable opinion on.

I guess the goal for me is to portray issues from how that affinity and it's philosophical spectrum would see it.

I hope that a repeat with Purity / Supremacy does not cause issues with another quest..

In the Wind
_______________________________

Though our colony has thrived on this new world, the lack of a breathable atmosphere has been a constant setback. With our newfound wealth of resources and technology, how should we address this problem?
_______________________________________

Purity

1. Choose to terraform the planet.

2. Construct three terrascapes.

Reward

While fully terraforming this world remains a lofty goal, we have managed to create regions of earth-like atmosphere, allowing our people to breath without assistance. Truly this is a great step forward to making this planet ours.

+1 Health from Terrascapes. +1 Culture from tiles adjacent to Terrascapes. + Purity affinity points.
________________________________________________________

Purity / Harmony

1. Choose to genetically modify citizens to breath the atmosphere.

2. Construct an Organ Printer.

(Which would be no longer associated with Supremacy and grant health instead of science. Seriously, it makes no sense.)

Reward

The simplest and cheapest answer to the incompatible atmosphere is to improve humanity. Though we must preserve the greatness of the human form, short-sighted sentimentality should not limit our vision.

30% less unhealth from population. +.5 Culture per population. + Purity and Harmony affinity points.
__________________________________________________________________

Purity / Supremacy

1. Choose to continue using sealed environments.

2. Construct five Domes.

Reward

What does it matter if the air is breathable when we can live in luxury sealed away from it? Our Dome technologies will address all of our oxygen-related needs.

+1 Food from Domes adjacent to cities. +1 Culture from Domes adjacent to other Domes. + Purity and Supremacy affinity points.

(Ideally alongside a balance change to remove their maintenance cost and give them +1 Food rather than Energy from the Biospheres technology.)

Our New World
_______________________________

Thanks to our flexibility and willingness to adapt, our colony has thrived on this new world. But our people have come to an ideological divide. Some viewed the adaptation as a way to preserve this world while others viewed it as predominantly a practical answer to this world's challenges. Moving forward, what should our stance be on the environment?
_______________________________________

Harmony

1. Choose to preserve the environment.

2. Launch three Miasmic Condensors.

Reward

This world is a pristine and beautiful second chance for humanity that we must not allow to be spoiled by reckless ambition. With infrastructure that thrives alongside the ecosystem without harming it, we will continue to prosper in harmony with it.

Miasma provides +1 Food from tiles that produce food. +1 Science from Forests. + Harmony affinity points.

(Biowells can be build on Forests without clearing them, apparently.)
________________________________________________________

Harmony / Supremacy

1. Choose to preserve only what is useful for study.

2. Construct a Biowell and a Manufactory.

Reward

We adapted to this world for our own benefit, but our ambition will not be shackled by it. Though there is still much that this world can teach, what is not useful can be discarded.

-1 Maintenance cost from Biowells and Manufactories. + Harmony and Supremacy affinity points.
__________________________________________________________________

Harmony / Purity

1. Choose to improve the environment.

2. Construct two Terrascapes adjacent to Forests.

Reward

This world is wondrous, yes, but so was Earth. Why not bring the two together? Through our ingenuity we will create the perfect ecosystem for the perfect humanity.

Forests adjacent to Terrascapes gain +1 Food, +1 Production, and +2 Culture.

Artificial Destiny
_______________________________

The advent of sentient AIs has led to a surge of ethical questions on how they should be treated. Fundamentally we must ask, "What is an AI?"
_______________________________________

Supremacy

1. Choose to treat sentient AI's as equals.

2. Construct five Node improvements to accommodate them.

Reward

An ancient philosopher once said "I think, therefore I am." Beyond our present form, what truly separates a man and a sentient AI?

+1 Energy from Nodes adjacent to a city or adjacent to Nodes forming a connection to a city. + Suprmacy affinity points.
________________________________________________________

Supremacy / Harmony

1. Choose to treat sentient AI's as tools.

2. Construct three Manufactories.

Reward

Machines are only tools, no matter how advanced they become or what organic parts support them. They will continue to serve us, and we will continue to advance.

+2 Production from Manufactories. + Supremacy and Harmony affinity points.
__________________________________________________________________

Supremacy / Purity

1. Choose to treat sentient AIs as second class citizens

2. Construct an Institute to modify the AIs with safety limits.

Reward

While humans are inherently above any mere AI, these AIs are clearly persons of a sort. Within proper limits they can be granted some autonomy and even a limited citizenship, so long as they continue to serve us.

+1 Energy from Generators, +1 Production from Mines, and +1 Food from Farms. + Supremacy and Purity affinity points.

Galgus, you've really put a lot of work and thought into those mission ideas. Thank you for that sweat! Many of these look like they'd be fascinating additions to the game.

Another Purity Idea:

Written by the Victors

A popular Old Earth historian has written a work criticizing Earth's role in the Great Mistake (and your sponsor in particular)

Condemn the work as poor/revisionist/etc. fund counter research-P
Focus on the role of scarcity in the work, which modern technology solves=SP
Focus on the role of human psychology in the work, which modern medical therapy solves=HP

@KrikkitTwo

I like the idea of a quest involving history, but I might try a different angle on it.

It's a good quest as-is, though I might focus more on human physiology with PH.
______________________

I'm currently worried that the P/ PS / S and the SH/ S/ SP quests are too alike, since both deal with sentient AI's.

I feel like one of them probably needs to change.

Any feedback is welcome.

Well I think SH would choose to integrate sentient AIs into biological organisms, study that interaction

Integrating AIs into organisms is something they would do, but it doesn't really fit with the basic "are AI's people?" question in that quest.

So far as how they would treat sentient AI's, it seems at least somewhat fitting in the quest for them to view them as tools rather than persons, given how they treat biomechanical constructs purely as machines.

I could see other ways to approach it though, and I'd be open to counter-arguments on S/H's view of artificial AIs.

They just seem to view everything as a tool to improve their colony and themselves.
_______________________

I'm currently leaning towards trying to replace the P / PS / S quest instead of the SH / S / SP one, but I'm having some difficulties with ideas.

Perhaps it could be a way to tie in an Old Earth Relic, showing early cybernetic technology or theory from Earth.

This is my attempt at a new P / PS / S quest based on the outline in the last post.

I might try a second set of center-hybrid and center-core quests if I can think of solid ideas.

Visions from the Past
_______________________________

A recently reclaimed Old Earth Relic contained a collection of transhumanist writings and the pinnacle of Old Earth cybernetic technologies. This led to squabbling between augmentation advocates and critics. What should be done with it?
_______________________________________

Purity

1. Choose to sell the relic to another colony.

2. Initiate a trade route with a foreign city.

Reward

Though we do not share the vision expressed in the records, others may find some comfort in the relic. More importantly, they will pay us handsomely for it. Perhaps we could benefit from sharing more of our records?

+2 Energy and +2 Culture from Old Earth Relics. Gain a one time Energy boost. + Purity affinity points.
________________________________________________________

Purity / Supremacy

1. Choose to preserve the relic.

2. Construct an Old Earth Relic.

Reward

Regardless of our views on it, we must preserve and learn from the past. The relic will be carefully preserved and studied like all of the others.

+2 Science from Old Earth Relics. You gain an Old Earth Artifact. + Purity and Supremacy affinity points.
__________________________________________________________________

Supremacy

1. Choose to thoroughly study the relic.

2. Research Computing and Physics.

Reward

Though the research was incomplete, it will hasten our progress to fulfilling the vision of those who sent it. Truly this is a fortunate find!

+4 Culture from Optical Surgeries. Gain 50% research progress on Augmentation and Cybernetics. + Supremacy affinity points.

I think HS would see AIs as a tool, but one they want to understand its interaction with the biological environment. (I'd give a +food/science bonus from manufacturies)

Patronage
_______________________________

With the colony's development, your people have turned their thoughts to the arts. Support has arisen for a new cultural center to educate and entertain the people, but they are divided in it's design.
_______________________________________

Common Objective

Generate 1000 Culture.
______________________________________________

Purity

1. Focus the center on glorifying Old Earth.

Reward

Heritage and culture are precious things that fade when they are not remembered. We will build a grand museum to celebrate the past and inspire the future.

20% of Culture output is converted to Production. + Purity affinity points.
________________________________________________________

Supremacy

1. Focus the center on technological progress.

Reward

Our technological prowess allowed the seeding in the first place, and by showcasing it we can inspire a new generation of innovators.

20% of your Culture output is converted to Energy. + Supremacy affinity points.
