Question about European trade companies/India

adhiraj.bose, I agree with a lot that you said. However I'm only playing as the Mughals because of a few things

1) I hate playing as Classical India, it's very boring for me.
2) I hate the city in between Delhi and Dhaka (I found Dhaka mostly). It pisses me off, I don't know how it looks later in the game but in the beginning, it looks like the cities are too cramped.
3) Dealing with Tamils seems like a headache (it might not but I'm a noob)
4) I'm scared of what will happen when the Mughals spawn. AI India always thrives until the Mughals come, and then they're gone in an instant.
5) India's tech rate seems very slow. I don't know if it's just me being a noob or if they're nerfed but it seems like I always lag behind in tech. Maybe I'm not strategic enough.

Mughals start off with a good army, which is nice. It's easy to conquer entire Indian subcontinent as them, and if I could change the Mughal name to India I would.

I hope India gets a revamp later on. Maybe a bigger landmass and an option to play in the Modern Era would be nice, but Leoreth has other plans at the time (I think). Mughals should collapse before 1800, I agree on that. Or at least change their name to 'India' after 1950.
 
I played a game with India not too long ago, and I remembered I wanted to ask something about them.

Why are their settlers so expensive? 240 hammers is as expensive as a wonder. India's production is horrible enough as is, but you can't even whip the settlers out until they're mostly completed. Sure, you only need 4 cities other than your three starting and whatever the tamils build, but still.
 
Yeah, creating settlers seems like such a pain for India. The whip is our best friend for India though.

I have another question though: How willing is the Euro civs to control a part of South Asia? As Thailand, what if I raze all cities in India/Indonesia? Will the AI get settlers to spawn there/bring them themselves?

It's historical area for them and they will settle the land if left empty.
 
Tried India a couple of times now and the following seems to work most of the time.

1. Found Dhaka 1SE on coast.
2. Build Punjabi workers and research Priesthood
3. As soon as Priesthood is finished, queue production and build temples in the two inland cities
4. Research Iron Working for Iron and able to build mines in jungle
5. When the temples are finished, put a priest specialist in each of the two cities
6. Hopefully your holy city wasnt Dhaka since the extra culture it will generate as shrine city will swallow the Pagan city (and so it never spawns).
7. Next research Mathematics and then Calendar (for plantations and helping economy)
8. The inland cities build one settler each, since they have huge food surpluses the expensive settlers arent that much of a problem. After that produce Axemen (2), Swordsmen (2) and Spearmen (4) and maybe a catapult for the Tamils. Then only spearmen (for barbs in NW and random war elephants spawning).
9. Found Lahore on Marble and the other city on the Gems hill in SW part of India.
10. Make sure you have one unit on the spot where the independent city spawns NE of the Tamils.
11. If you have only been producing military units after the settlers you should have a welcome committe for the Tamils.
12. 3-4 turns after Tamil spawn, remove your squatting unit from the spot of the independent city. It will spawn the turn after but not flip to Tamils since "flip" time has passed.
13. In a few turns the Tamils will attack the new independent city. Attack their capital once that happens and their forces are split.
14. Mop up the last city a few turns later. If you are lucky, they founded the city on the iron island. Attack it as well. Tamils are done.
15. The three Tamil cities, your starting three cities, and the founding of Lahore and Gems city, capture Pagan and that makes nine cities. Build the city east of the cotton near Mumbai (close to Persia). Then you have 10 cities for your next UHV.
16. Once your first great prophet spawns, build the shrine in the city that didnt spawn the great prophet. You can now run 4 priest specialists in that city. Once your second prophet spawn, build the second shrine and win your UHV 1.
17. Build missionaries and temples in all your cities to have two religions in each. Switch to slavery. You have until 700 AD to complete the 20 temples.
18. Next research Metal Casting for Triremes, otherwise sea barbs will be annyoing.
19. Then aim for Feudalism and Machinery. When you are 1 turn from completing change to next tech. Once you pass 600 AD the research penalty becomes lower and you will get massive amounts of surplus beakers. Next aim is for Gunpowder. Then go for Rifling (probably after 1200 AD).
20. Except for barbs your next major obstacle are the Seljuks. They spawn in about 1040 AD. Have some troops ready and they will hopefully not bother you after collapsing Persia.
21. At 1200 AD the Mughals spawn. Evac Dilli and Lahore. Be prepared to counterattack. If you didnt already win the UHVs.
