Question about fighting acheron

I waited till I had ten Swordsmen with Bronze weapons, city raider and combat. As CR reduces the defender's strength and the dragon fear is dependent upon the strength ratio (I think), only 2 of my swordsmen ran away.

Or you could use units that are not alive:
undead, demons, golems, angels, catapults (depending on religion, civ and techs)

some summons are good for him. they soften him up before your real units give it a go.

Just be sure to send everything you have after him at once. As I've found out several times, if he gets promotions (which mostly happens due to the AI spamming units and throwing them at him) he can be insanely hard to kill...

Or the hippus hero. Unfortunately he usually comes pretty late and Acheron doesn't always last that long.

yeah, in my games the AI makes quite a effort to take him out if they are not busy fighting me.

Tried it with an inquisitor, reload after reload after reload..... didnt catch him. hunter/ranger didnt try, its a beast not animal i guess. Saying this, a beastmaster? I am still figuring it out, because there is a dragonvictory; capturing them all (in ice or shadow not sure) So ofcourse any tip is welcome....:D

Keep in mind with the reloading is that unless you turn on the option to use random seeding with each reload, you will always get the same results.
The Beastmaster won't work, because he still only works with animals.
You can try domination (mind 3) but will probably just loose archmages that way.

Good luck:)

Catching Acheron? Never thought about that :D Well but thanks for the replies. My biggest problem was, to find a not living unit playing Alemanchier. But it's indeed very intersting to know, that the strengh influences how likely a unit is to run away... anyways I finally took him down.
But I think there should be really something done about the habbit of the AI to waiste tons of units trying to kill Acheron.

Certainly can be done.

Managed it a couple of times with an inquisitor. Can be best to soften him up with fireballs/meteors a bit first.

In the BtS Beta, Command still lets you capture a living unit 100% of the time (instead of 50%). Catching Acheron is easier there.

I did it, i captured the bloody red dragon!!!! With an inquisitor. Softened him up with crush and one unit (crusader i think it was) and then i captured him with an inquisitor. So cool! going to try it next with Kuriotates or Sheaim, if one dragon is cool how about two.....;-)

good work!
i often find that the AI will normally kill the dragon before i get to inquisitors

Thats why i am so surprised! Next game wasnt with K or S, but with the luchiurp, wanted to try them. I think i am in year 390 or something and Archeron is still living, I can make inquisitors, but there is a nasty little female between me and my dragon ;-) (balseraph). Havent figured it out how to get there and if i will be on time. And ofcourse if it will work again. Keep you posted ;-)
