I have three exe files that I use to modify civ.exe for civ1, and I was wondering if it would be appropriate and/or against the rules to post them for others to use? They were created back in 1994, but I am unsure who I got them from. The files are civedx, civedit, and civ2. Thanks guys!

Modified executionanbles should be against the game's EULA, IIRC.

I thought I'd ask before posting, thanks.
Edit: These are programs that the user can use to either make the game easier or harder to play, and does not include the executable for civ.

    great.
They'll be available as soon as an admin has taken a look at the files :).

EULAs are generally non-enforcable and irrelevant in countries with reasonable laws.

Which, unfortunately, does not include the US, where CFC is hosted.

    I know, I know.
But I'd rather not mess with modified executables at all. Just saver at the end.
And also not an issue here, like we could see ;).

So does this mean my files won't be added? I see a similar type of program uploaded already, back in '06, what's the difference between the civhack program (haven't downloaded it) and the ones I've uploaded?

I made a program that modifies the Civ3: Conquests executable as an April Fool's joke this year. See the thread and download link. I didn't run into any difficulties.

Your files are probably more complicated than mine (mine only change a few Easter Eggs). But as long as it's only changing rules/etc., it should be in the same class. Mine didn't include the executable itself, nor does yours.

There also are modified Civ3 executables available here (such as one that allows more cities than the base game, and one that disallows city razing), and a hacked Civ3 editor that enables options that aren't possible by default. These do include the executable itself. So the precedent is that if they provide useful functionality that wasn't possible before, they are allowed to survive.

When I talk about "modified executables", then I mean the original civ .exe files with changes, and not programs uploaded by users ;).

(doesn't contradict what Quintillus said above; times have changed a bit)

I still have* a NoCD patch for Civ2/MPGE that I downloaded off of CFC's download section years ago :p Which was great because my original CD for Civ2 got very hot when used. I think the staff quietly removed it some time ago though.

*on an old hard drive that I haven't used in years so it may be dead now.

No, it's still there. The No Limits patches on that page are also modified executables. In fact, there are modified executables and executable patchers all over this site, many uploaded long before most people in this thread were members. Many are essential for these classic games to run properly on modern systems. Civ1 is over 20 years old. I don't know what the fuss is about.

Yeah I only had the original Civ2 disc and none of the expansions or an easy way of getting them (hell they STILL aren't available digitally, come on Firaxis, put them on GOG.com already! Civ2 really needs support for Win7 aside from XP Virtual mode) and thanks to CFC I was able to play the user made scenarios that required the expansions. Eventually I did get Civ Chronicles though :D
