question about steam and disk

So I recently won a price at my retail game shop and I can get a big discount on certain products one of them civ 5 gods and king So i preorder it and will get it at 22 june for only 10 euro

However I recently found out I have a problem with my DVD driver at my laptob.

Now my question is can I install civ 5 gods and king With steam withouth the DVD rom driver if I have the product key? Or do I have to check for a new DVD player?

This means can I enter the product key on the CD I bought at steam or do really have put it in my drive?
