I got the unofficial patch from somewhere (else) after hearing it mentioned on here and it sorted out a couple of issues I had after installing smax ie smac not running with out the disc in the drive but what else does it do for me game play wise? I haven't really notice any difference.

We can't discuss the unofficial patch on this forum, since it defeats the copyright protection (SMAX) and violates the EULA (SMAC and SMAX), and hence is against our forum's rules. However, you are free to discuss it on the forum where you found it.
