Does anyone know how to assign a unit operation units?

I saw I could probably do it via a promotion, but I was wondering if there was a more direct way that I am missing, or are the unit operations currently hard-coded to certain classes?

I have been looking into the same. it's been a while, any advice for a someone just getting into this? ……… anyone?
