Question about walls, Great Wall, and Metallurgy

as we know, the Great Wall expires with metallurgy. Does that mean that walls in general also expire? For instance, if i don't anticipate a war until later in the game, will walls be beneficial? Or do they continue to serve their purpose, and after the Great Wall expires, i have to start building walls in cities that could use them?

Yes after the great wall expires the walls go away.

ah so walls in itself are still useful after metallurgy? like, when the walls go away (due to Great Wall expiration), it is still beneficial to build walls?

yes, but only towns(under pop 6) benifit from walls.
