Question about warring

I mostly play with a buddy via IP connection. The biggest issue I have is when we go to war with each other. If we've both got our stacks next to each other and we're duking it out, one thing I really have a problem with is unit selection. What I'm talking about is I'll have to scroll through a rediculously large stack, meanwhile he seems to be attacking one right after the other. After a long stack battle when you're down to the last couple units, it comes down to who can select their units the quickest. Is there something I'm missing here? The game mechanics really dont seem geared towards quick unit selection. It's quite cumbersome actually. Scroll through your units until you find the right one, except the first click usually selects all the units, then you have to click on the one you want. Is there something Im missing here fellas? This aspect really pisses me off sometimes

There is an option in the options menu to have your stacks attack as a stack which allows you to use all of your units at the same time when you attack and you want to turn off the animations of the battles also.

Just out of curiousity....the defender always has the advantage in Civ 4 battles since the game will automatically pick the highest odds unit to counter the attacking unit. Why wouldn't you just let your friend do all of the attacking and sit there and watch it unfold? ;)

The only exception I can think of for this is Catapaults and such which cause collateral damage and which you want to be attacking with.

There are a few more exceptions.

*Any unit with retreat chance (mounted units etc.)
*Chariots, Grenadiers and other units that only gain their bonuses when attacking.

And yes, I agree with csmith that simultaneous turns can create odd results, so watch out.
