In my current game I had to settle another city to gain a beach head on another continent before going to war to take out a major rival.

Now I have overrun this continent and taken the capitals of both countries on it, Puppeting any cities I took. So if I were to raze the initial city, would the cost of my SP's reduce ?

I'm trying for a CV, and it's the first game since going up a level, so anything I can do to speed it up would be helpful.

Razing that city will not reduce your policy cost. Policy cost is based on the "high water mark" for your number of cities. But if you raze that city and later found or annex another, you policy costs should not go up then.

Ah, that's handy, as one of the capitals I took still has a number of wonders and cultural buildings, so annexing that city should generate enough culture to pay for itself. So if I raze the beachhead city, the "real cost" e.g. the number of turns between policies, may come down.

Uh...if the "beachhead" is a city you founded, you can't raze it.

If you didn't start the "beachhead" city, make sure you raze it completely before annexing captured capitals.

Oh, and by the way, if I need to make an amphibious landing on a distant continent, I find it easier to just bribe a City State on that continent.

Why? Because there usually isn't free land available to settle on other continents before declaring war when transcontinental amphibious movement becomes possible.

I agree with Mint.

I would never found a new city just to make a convenient beach head on another continent. I'm not sure how cramped things are land wise on the other continent for you but I would still go with the tried and true CS friendly invasion route before an actual war even begins.

If I did found a city though, it would have to have beneficial in its own right. Probably to snag a luxury or strategic resource I was lacking more than likely.
