Question on the Movie Jarhead

I watched that movie 3 days ago and I was wondering ....

1 - Are the Marines really like in the movie? - seemed pretty realistic to me.

2 - Do they send Marines in dead-end missions to do absolutely nothing?

ill have questions later on ... il watch it again tomorrow.

I would prefer answers by people that were in the marines or people that know marines !

1 - Some are, yes, Marines are taken from form almost all walks of life. So you will see almost every type of person, to that one nerdy looking marine with BC (glasses) to a hard ass ohhhh-rahhh i love the marine corps type. We are trained very well, with also (for most of us) a high moral standard. but their is no one type of marine.

2 - When you are a Pvt it sure seems that way, but when you get alittle bit of rank and get to "understand" how the O's plan things out, you will see they always have a reason for what they do. Now those reason may be misinformed, "seemed good at the time", just plain dumb, ect ect. but believe me there is always a reason for everything you do in the marine corp.

BTW i was a Sgt in the marines for 4 and 1/2 years in 3rd LAAD.
