Question regarding revolts

Hello CivFanatics,

I am new to your forums and to the game Civ2. We started a MP game last week and it has been great retro fun. I have one question though. Two times now out of the blue I had to deal with a peasant revolt near one of my cities. Around ten hostile AI units appeared. I was wondering what causes this since there is nothing about it in the Civpedia that comes with the game.

Some details, not sure if they matter. I am playing as the Chinese and I am in the Industrial age ( red square buildings ). The cities that have the revolts where founded by my empire, no hostile take-overs. The revolting group is mostly musketeers but some artillery as well and one "boss" unit that i have not seen before. We play civilization 2 multiplayer gold edition.

Anybody knows what causes this and how it can be prevented?

Greetings from Holland!

..you're civ is being uncivilized therefore the greater the chance of hostile units to spawn..

..unhappy citizens inside the city start to revolt and refuse to work means no production outcome on that city..

..there are some possible solutions for this..
.1.free up/reduce some working tiles inside the big fat cross..it will hire some specialists(entertainers)..
.2.build religious buildings like temples and cathedrals or wonders which make a unhappy citizens content..(jails, maybe)
.3.switch to fundamentalism..
.4.garrison military units(martial law)..

.,see 'Unhappiness Due to Civ Size' in 'Game Concepts' under 'Civilopedia' section.

..hope it helps..
