During Civ2 the main unit was the Haubitser..
No other unit added so much to youre military power, and to keep ppl away.

Normally, u started very fast to get mathematics, getting the Catapult...
(Bronze work and Mathematics = peace for 40% of the game even on deity lvl).

Later on, as u got more advanced tech, a safe way of keeping enemy away, and this i should add, was also on Deity lvl, against max opponents - was to at all times, having youre 1-2 defense units (Phalanx, Infantry, etc), and the always built catapult/similar unit in each city - no matter if u had 10, or 200 cities.

As i used to reach Max science (future tech) (i usually played on getting max science, Democracy, and no wars) - i was often able to, even against the worse of the AI, to stay out of war.
With a little help from the Great wall, and united nations - i could play many games, by this simple setup.

As in Civ 1, so in Civ 2 - the main powerkey was haubitsers ("artillery" units)

Is there a similar unit-type in Civ3 that gives the same?
Or are u now down to numbers?
I often find that no matter the amount of Defense, Bombard, or attack units - its down to cheer numbers, and not a particular type of units in enuff amount (usually having average amount of cities, with just 1 Bombard unit in each in Civ 2 - was enuff to secure peace).

So - is there basicly anything similar to the overall "power"-play in Civ 2 in Civ 3?
(Defense unit + bombard + certain wonders, and a nuke)

Another thing - a very effective tactic when forced into war, and not wanting to realign youre entire building strategy - was by using a spy, and a tank...
The spy went into the enemy Capital city, triggered a Nuke, and the tank moved in and took the city - either leading to the enemy nation split into 2, or that he went into peace talks..
Is there a similar strategy of Civ3 ?

I HATE when im trying to "keep the lead in science", and some stupid AI suddenly, un-wanted, and without any reason, suddenly jumps u.. therefor i sometimes wish for a fast ending of the war... that too seems kinda waste of time.

Another thing that bugs me, are the lack of respect for ICBMs.. having over 90 of them in a game, together with with 40 Tact. Nukes, still didnt prevent some english nation, having 2 ICBMs - trying to get into war with me.. needless to say, that after having dropped 3-4 nukes on each of his cities, reducing all defense to zero, it was possible to take all his land with a minimal army.. (Deity lvl)
Either way - look at reality, i for sure would respect any nations having that many nukes, if i didnt have many, and especially if i didnt have any at all.
(I should add that i had missile defense, and he didnt)

Is there any way, or any time a AI civ will respect youre nukes, and the amount of them ?

Sorry for the long post. Hope someone can help me out here.

you cannot compare civ2 with civ3
they did that howitzer thing away because its to easy

the only thing when a ai gets more respect for you is
having more culture
a bigger army and to play fair
thats it:goodjob:
