I would love for one of these questions to be answered by Sarah on the next livestream (or all of them here on the forums before that). I know she usually fields questions live from Twitch or X or YouTube (I’m honestly not sure which), but I prefer to pay attention to the stream instead of trying to type while doing so). If y’all also have questions for Sarah (or know the answer to mine somehow), add them below.
  1. How does game set up work? Are we able to pick which Leaders the AI opponents play as, or which civs, or both? If we get to pick the AI’s civs, is it for Antiquity only, or do we get to specify their preferred path? For example, could we specify that we want AI opponent Franklin to lead the Han in Antiquity but America in the Modern Age?
  2. Are there any Terra map types or game modes where the Distant Lands are unoccupied by other civs (being either completely empty or only home to Independent Powers)?
  3. Will there be a True Start Location Earth map at launch? How will that work with Homelands and Distant Lands?

Howdy, @TheSpaceCowboy! Great q's and happy to tackle what I can:

1. You can pick both the leader & civ for each player during setup, which applies to Antiquity (or Exploration and Modern, if using advanced start). However, you won't be able to specify a leader's preferred path at this time.
2. You can tweak the # of players in the game to leave Distant Lands unoccupied by other civs, which means they'd be home to only Independent Powers. More map types and settings to come.
3. While TSL won't be in at launch, it's something we're planning to add later.

On your note about streams - we collect live from Twitch, YouTube, and Steam chat. Totally hear you wanting to focus on watching instead of typing questions mid-stream. While I can't promise to catch or answer everything, I do keep an eye out on frequently asked questions from players and try to make sure we cover what we can during the streams, + other places you hear straight from the devs, like our developer diaries. Hope this helps! :)

Thank you so much for the response!!! These have been my biggest questions about the game! Getting this info is even better than a civ reveal or Leader First Look!

Sara, will there be a demo released? I run an older computer and it's a bit hit or miss on what games it can play, it would be nice to see the game in action and get a feel for if I can run it.
There aren't plans for a demo, but a good place to start is the minimum and recommended specs we shared! From what I've seen, the helpful people on this forum also give great insights or advice based on similar setups.

@FXS_Sar I can't tell you how nice it is for a big developer (any big company really) to just give a straight answer to specific questions. Thank you for doing it, and thank you to whoever up the marketing food chain lets you do it rather than bludgeoning you with embargoes.
We're all Civ fans at the end of the day, so happy to be here and help when we can! (Even the marketing big dogs, I promise)

It's worth noting that Steam allows you to refund a game you've played for less than two hours for this purpose, basically - if you get Civ 7 and it's not functioning on your computer, just submit the refund request in time and they'll approve it just about automatically.

Taking this opportunity to ask clarification in something people here have been wondering, and the few times it was mentioned it could be taken both ways. Of course, only if it is something you can answer at this time:

Does every Exploration and Modern ages civs have gameplay unlocks making it so you could go from any civ to any other on age transition, if you fulfill the specific gameplay requirement of a civ? And if yes, do you plan to add that info to the game guides of Exploration and Modern civs eventually?
