Quick Answers / 'Newbie' Questions

thanks but I forgot to mention we are all in the same religion, sorry so I don't think that's it. It might be a civ specific thing though. One civ whose cities I've capped have zero chance of revolt but 2 others need garrisons. The civ with zero chance was captured second and the first still has a small chance of revolt. I thought it might be something to do with the attitude towards me of their former leaders but the first is friendly, the zero chance cities cities have a cautious former leader and only the third civ guy is annoyed. They are all my vassals too.
I think it is mainly culture and cultural pressure from other cities. If you have less than 50% culture in a city and it is being pressured, you will get revolt chance. Best thing to do is eliminate that pressure.

Anyone know why some captured cities require a hefty garrison to prevent any chance of revolt but others (from another civ but captured 15 turns later) have no chance of revolt with just a couple of units inside?
If the captured city is within the cultural radius of another civ and the owning civ has less than 50%culture, there will be a chance of revolt. If the captured city is not within the cultural radius of another civ, there will be no chance of revolt. Sometimes I cap a civ, and one of there cities will pop another ring of control and a city that had no chance of revolt will now start revolting.

Another question (sorry) has any of you clever bods found a way to access the game logs outside the game?

Do you mean error logs or or the in-game event log?

The error logs are in My Games\BTS\Logs. (For a CD installation, else this should be the same folder as the local \Saves folder.)

AFAIK the event logs are contained in the saves and in the replay files (My Games\BTS\Replays) that are generated on 'retiring'. Both are not human readable and compressed in a way that the game knows. The replays are not encrypted, so you can read the event texts, but not much else.

Do HA with +1 vision FB further than the usual 5x5 grid?
Visible tiles, i.e., those displayed (lighted) by the unit's vision, will not spawn barbs. Any fogged or semi-dark tile (no vision) can spawn if outside the 5X5.

Got a few about attaching screenshots to forum posts, was unable to find answers myself. :(

- how long a time screenshots attached by forum's own "upload" function will stay available? I see some (real) old posts where such attached pictures - are not available anymore. But how long exactly they stay? Few months? A year? 5 years? Wanna know for sure;

- what is the best way to attach a screenshot? Full-size under a spoiler is what i used so far, but maybe thumbnailed without spoiler is more convinient to people? Is there any known "good manners" way to it?

- is there any extra action / forum policy about attaching screenshots to a post via external direct link (from a respectable well-known image-hosting service, that is)?

we migrated to a new forum host a few years ago, so some things may not have carried over. Also, some folks have used image host sites that may no longer work. But I'm not aware of any limits otherwise.

I recommend putting in spoilers as it helps with page loading but it is not required. You can attach a screenshot or use an image hosting site .

no...usually just copy the bbcode and post directly into your post

I've pacified an AI city. It has a silk plantation. It's roaded up but I don't actually have the silk, or at least I'm not getting +1 happy. Not there, not anywhere. Do I need calendar to benefit from it?

Yes you need the tech. If it didn't work like that, you would often be settling on calendar-resources for instant happiness!

Ah if I'd settled on one I'd presume I simply couldn't build the physical infra without Cal to make silk. Now I own the infra but it looks like all the tech guys legged it when my phants rocked up. Ho hum, 1300AD+ and another tech I'd normally have but don't. Heck I don't even know fishing yet...
