Is there a post or table somewhere that says when units become obsolete (can't be built) and what they get replaced by? For example, warriors become obsolete when a city can build spears, axes, and swords, and any warriors in the queue become spears, while archers become obsolete when a city can build longbows and xbows, and become xbows. Is there a complete list for all units somewhere?

I can make one, I guess.

If you have the BUG mod (and if you don't, stop everything immediately and load it) there's a chart in the Sevopedia that shows unit upgrades. It even plugs in the UU of the civ you're playing as. :goodjob:

I have the Mac version of BUG, and I see the chart, but that doesn't do what I want.

I'm asking because I'd like to know what units I should pre-build (but not complete) in my queue to speed unit production when I get a desired tech. For example, suppose I want to build a cuirassier stack. Is there a mounted unit I can build while I'm teching MT that will auto-convert into a cuirassier when MT comes in? Same question for macemen, rifles, infantry, etc. I know I can't do this with swordsmen because warriors become spearmen, not swordsmen, and I can't do it with trebuchets because catapults don't auto-convert to trebs, they can be produced alongside them.

I'm surprised this table doesn't already exist, it seems like useful information.

Sounds like someone just found themselves a new project. :goodjob:

This happens when you have the ability to build the upgraded unit and not build the other one. In the case of a warrior-spear, the metal hooked up obsoletes the warrior and allows for the construction of spears.

How exactly do trade routes work? There's civics, wonders etc that give +1 trade routes to cities but I don't exactly know how they work. They seem to be completely automated with no input via the player... Can they be altered at all, or is it just purely automatic?

^^ No direct way to control with what cities you want routes.

If you build harbors or any buildings that give more %, those cities will get the better routes (for example with AI capitals). Have to be careful there, a city that brings in no commerce could steal the good routes from your non-coastal capital with harbors & co.

Trade routes are automatic and smart (cities with the most trade route modifiers - including population - get the best routes).

Though I'm not sure how smart. Is it purely based on population? Do trade route enhancing buildings factor in the decision? Are commerce enhancing building taken into consideration? A bureaucratic capital?

Usually big coastal cities will get the best trade routes.

Hi guys, new here and I have a question concerning tiles and promotions:

Say I have a Guerilla 3 Gallic Warrior standing on a flat tile next to an enemy city on a hill, does he get all the bonusses Guerilla 3 provides him when attacking that city? Because he kinda goes up that hill and fights there if he survived the defenders' first strike.

I have a genuine noob problem. I cannot find how to add a signature to my posts.... On other forums there usually is a big obvious box for it somewhere in you profile but here, i searched all over the place, read the forum rules and even tried to google it but to no avail. Is it because i need a minimum post count? I am at a total loss and beg your help :P

Yes, the fight takes place in the city, which is on a hill. You get the strength bonus and retreat chance. But that doesn't mean it's going to win, check the combat odds tooltip before attacking.

If you can't find it, there's probably a minimum post count or account 'oldness'.

You need to be on the forum for ten days. Same thing for me, it drove me insane.. :crazyeye:

As you can see, I have used it vehemently.
(AKA I went beserk with it)

Thanks! And what if I have a Guerilla 3 Gallic Warrior defending a city which is on a hill, and he is attacked by a Crossbowman from a nearby flat tile? He has to descend to attack the Crossbowman on the flat tile. Do the Guerilla 3 bonusses help him out in that situation too?

Yes, because he's defending on a hill. He doesn't actually "descend" to the flat tile unless he attacks. The battle always takes place on the defender's tile, so any defensive bonuses (through terrain and/or promotions, etc.) are with the defender.

how many hammers is a pop worth when whipping on quick speed? ...15?
