Quick Answers / 'Newbie' Questions

Is it possible to set up a multiplayer game in Civ V where we can play alternative turns and do it via email notification or something similar and be on line at separate times?

Civ5? :hmm: (CFC needs a "recoiling in horror" smilie. :mischief:)

I'd be of no help regardless, as I don't play multi, but I believe you're in the wrong neighborhood. :crazyeye:

Here's the Civ5 MP forum. Having never been to that forum, I can't tell you if it's exactly what you need, but it's probably a good place to start.

Spoiler :
...And whenever you wanna play the real Civ, c'mon back and we'll welcome you to the darkside of BtS. I keed, I keed- happy Civving :goodjob:

I currently own only the vanilla version of Civilisation IV, and the two expansion
packs seem very appealing. (I actually used to have Beyond the Sword, but lost
it some three years ago.) I have looked at the listed scenarios in Warlords
(Genghis Khan, Alexander, &c) and think they would also be fun to play. Does
Beyond the Sword come with the Warlords scenarios bundled as well,
or would I need to buy both separately?

No. If you want the Warlords scenarios, you have to buy Warlords. There are those on this forum who say that's all that Warlords is good for (otherwise play BTS.)

Count me as one of those. I usually don't play many scenarios but I played most of the warlords ones.

Yea I got a question I'm 1'st at everything. everything else is first except approval rating? why ? Is is a bug ? Orion , why approval ratig is always last (like 8th)? always ..... last and I am flawed ? My Empire is always 1'st place at everything else why approval rating is always last why ?

Approval Rating is the difference between average happiness across your cities and average unhappiness across your cities.

Does anyone know what causes Granaries to sometimes... not work? Every once in a while, a city with a Granary will grow, but the next turn their food stores are well under the halfway point. I know they don't work if the city completes the building on the same turn as it grows, it's not that. It doesn't seem to have anything to do with whipping or anything like that. Has anybody else seen this?

The only time that can happen is the first growth after the granary is built if the granary store isn't full. I suggest you try out micro challenge 7 to learn how to optimize your granaries :) or read this strategy guide.

When does "Diplomatic Victory" come up in the UN votes? In my game I could only vote for resolutions.

Moderator Action: Moved this post and the answers below because the thread it was posted in was not appropriate for the subject.

Two leaders participate in the UN election, the leader who built the UN Wonder and the leader of the largest of the remaining civilizations, largest in terms of population not territory. All leaders vote in that election. The leader who wins the election then gets to determine what resolutions will be put to vote by all civs. To win a diplomatic victory you need to build the UN or be the largest of the other civs so that you will be a candidate in the election. You can possibly take the city with the UN in it as well, I've never done that but assume it would work. Then you need to win the election. That gives you the chance to ask the world to hand you a diplomatic victory, but you need to ensure you get enough votes to actually win.

Also, if you could vote yourself the winner without anyone else voting for you, the Diplomatic Victory is not available.

BTW, this thread is for patching BTS. Either post your questions in the Quick Answers thread or start a thread for your question.

I have never seen the granary not work as it should, but I don't watch it that closely either. Maybe you suffered a silo explosion.

Moderator Action: Edited in the quote above as 3 posts were moved here and split the answer from the question.

I did forget events. There is a "spoiled grain" event that results in the city losing all stored food if you don't pay the 20 gold.

That's most likely what it was, I'll start watching for that. (It wasn't the vermin event.) Thanks. :goodjob:

I am not a noob but I have a noob-level question: How do I turn "on" combat animations for battles between AI civs not involving me? I turned on the option that allows me to watch their movement, but it seems it is doing quick combat for them even though I have quick combat "off".

Btw, I am playing rise of mankind - a new dawn. Not sure if that changed anything.

I am not sure about it. But I did see someone in a forum post once complaining about it followed by people telling him that he could turn it off in the options (and yes- yes was specifically talking about stacks in civ 4, not civ 5). Funny thing is when I read this I started searching for how I could turn this "on", since to me it sounds like a cool feature. Maybe the guy was mistaken?

Dumb one here, but hey - it's from me. What do you expect? :p

Do units suffer damage traveling through, or staying in fallout affected areas? I can't remember if this is so, or not.

Not in the unmodded game as far as I remember.

Is there a way to set the default zoomlevel to a higher one? So the game starts with it each time?
