Quick Complaint about Flank Attacks...

It seems from my casual readings on this board that most people think that Flank Attack is actually too powerful (given that it seemingly causes damage to an unlimited number of siege units). Still, something about it annoys me. Why is it that the flanking unit doesn't damage obsolete siege units, only ones in it's current era?

Some backwards civ gets all uppity, declares war, lands 20 cats right on my doorstep, and I'm punished because I happen to have cavalry instead of horse archers? Seems a bit absurd...

I like racking up XP's as much as the next guy, but it gets a bit tedious...

Same thought passed my mind yesterday, Sitting bull was about to make the most insane attack to one of my cities i've ever seen. He decided to unleash ALL his obsolete units to conquer Roanoke (A colony i made on another continent). City was on a hill with a river crossing in front of it, but he still gathered several HUNDRED units, including a lot of obsolete siege weapons.

When I realised that my cavalry didnt really count towards these inferior siege weapons, I was glad i just researched railroad a few turns ago, and had the cash to upgrade my 30 defenders to Machine Guns.

Needless to say, Sitting bull went a solid lead in points to being 3rd, and i gained 2 great generals that turn, and the city didnt lose ONE defender.

Uh... It was a important designer desision for vastly improved gaming experience :mischief: Yea. I am sure it was.

Can be changed via Civ4UnitInfos.XML. The Tag is <FlankingStrikes>... Just add what units you want to flank there. Compare Horse Archer and Cavalry to see examples.
