Quick Launch Bar settings not being remembered

Recently, I got a new computer and I've had all sorts of problems with Windows 2000 Pro SP4. The latest one, and this is a problem that has only cropped up recently (i.e. it's not been there since install until now) is that whenever I reboot the order of quick launch icons (i.e. the set beside the start menu) is always reset. So, for example, I can drag & drop an icon so it's 3rd from theleft but when I reboot it goes back to it's initial postion of 2nd from the right. Anybody know how to fix this?

I'm not about to install W2K just to verify this, but I'm guessin that they reorder it according to the ascii? If that is the case then just rename your links to have 1, 2, 3, ... in front of them in the order you want to appear.

Maybe you have managed to check "Arrange automatically" or some other option in the folder they are in. To find the folder, right-click and choose properties for one of the links. In the general tab there should be the location.

Note that I don't know if this is the problem, but it's worth checking out.

Well, in that case, it could be linked to another problem I'm having. In Windows Explorer, the folder settings aren't being remembered correctly, in that the 'Auto Arrange Icons' (View > Arrange Icons > Auto Arrange) keeps being knocked off. So if I go to a different folder and then go back, the icons are no longer auto-arranged. Does anybody know what could be causing that?

See if this is the cause of the problem?

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

Date: NoSaveSettings
Type: DWORD
Value: 0 (don't save settings) / 1 (save my settings)

If it is not there, create one.

You'd need to logout then relogin to see the effect.

Mmm, that doesn't work. Could it be because NoSaveSettings is for ME/XP and I have 2K?

Btw, I'm also using a regedit program rather than the windows one. Here is a screenshot of what I did following your instructions.
