Hi

In the endgame, when I've built every building and unit I want from a city, is there some way to just let the city sit on its hand for a while, maybe stockpiling resources or something? Usually I just have them build caravans over and over and establish trade routes over and over, but the micromanagement of that is super annoying.

I'd basically just like the city to do nothing for a while, is there a way to do so? If so, how?

Thanks.

super easy, when the last building is built don't change.. let it build it again and it will blink and never finish.. if you need to build caravans do so and then sell tempel and rebuild it and then leave it like that

Oh, I was hoping there was like a proper way to do it in the interface, but that temple->sell->build thing sounds like a good idea, thank you.

not what I know about, I think in CIV II you can put a city to do only money... not in CIV I...

If you're going to do the building selling thing, use SDI Defense. It's the most expensive generally available building and thus will require the least amount of selling. Plus, you'll get more money out of one SDI Defense vs. five Temples due to minimization of remainder shields that are not stockpiled after construction.

I'm rather sad to hear your distaste for caravans. You can usually find a route that will pay better than the 50 coins (equivalent) that you would get from selling a building. Add to that the fact that caravan cash also applies to science. That doubles your benefit right there.

Say what??

When your caravan arrives, you get:
1. a new trade route (up to 3), and
2. some cash as a one-time bonus

You mean to say there's another?

3. more lightbulbs to the Science Adviser as a one-time bonus??

-----------

You're absolutely right about the end-game caravans being able to produce more than the (equivalent of) 50 cash you would get from selling barracks. Caravans are MUCH better than barracks

The only reason to use SDI (I sometimes use Mfg Plants instead, but there's a risk of pollution) is that it reduces the micromanagement time in the game, at a cost of much less cash than caravans.

By one-time, I meant once for each caravan that arrives. I think we're saying the same thing.

Anyway. So we can use our stockpiled caravans to finish building a WOTW in a single turn - OR we could use them to finish getting the current Advance? Wow! I had no idea.

That's what I love about this board, even after almost 20 years of playing this game, I learn something new every day. Thanks!

In Civ2 there was an exploit that you could continue building a wonder that had already been built. The game :):):):):)ed at you every turn about it but you could stockpile the shields.

However, I always found it far better, however, to build caravans. Very often I would save them for the mega-build-in-one-turn. In an emergency, I could even move them out of the city I was saving them in to saturate the local terrain and provide a very crude defensive shield; their defensive strength of 1 wasn't high and it was an expensive way of providing defence, but in emergency when taken by surprise... ;)

It's not one time, it's every time and in the same quantity as generated coins.

It's true, and here's the proof - pretty cool! Thanks, Whelkman. Now I understand why I kept getting some advances even when my taxes were at 100%

Build up the same improvement and sell it over and over again, have it build military units, or don't change the building after it is built, then let shields accumulate, then the accumulated shields can be used for any new building/unit/wonder/space ship module when new technology is discovered.
