Is there anyone who has been around a while who can remember what Civ3 Quick Save Games and Medal Play Game were? There's a lot of code and database entries that refer to them on the GOTM website, and, as part of getting the GOTM server fully functional again, I'd like to make sure that they display properly, but I'm a bit hampered by not knowing what they are or how they are supposed to display.

As far as I've been able to decipher from what's on the server, I'm guessing that possibly, back in the early Civ3 days, whenever a game was released, people had an option to play and submit the game as a quick save game rather than a full game, but that practice eventually died out. It looks from the database entries like preparations were made to do the same thing for Civ4, but that never happened. Medal Play Games on the other hand - I can't find any records of submissions for them, so I'm wondering if they were something that was planned but didn't happen.

If anyone can shed any light on either of those, it'd be appreciated. And it might help to make sure that our records of all the old games people played and submitted in the past are preserved.

I remember the quick games as games with an established start setting where there was a stated goal to achieve, like conquer that city or reach the other side of the ocean or collect 100 culture points. Nothing else mattered.

Although the forum makes it look sort of like the Quick Save forum is empty:

That "None" is deceptive. The forum still exists. This post from 2005 explains the concept, similar to what Piu Freddo mentioned.

My guess is the sub-forum shows the latest post as "None" because there of some migration back that happened after the last post in October of 2010, before July 23rd of 2011 - maybe a vBulletin upgrade that reset the last post markers? Certainly odd, I don't think I've ever seen that on a forum that really has posts.

I don't remember the Quick Games myself though, I was only in Stories and Tales for the brief time after I'd joined CFC when they were still ongoing.
