Ok in my last game I was mayans. Japan backed me in to a corner on the continent. Still Anceint Times. Japan demands tribute of alphabet and I say no, war is declared. I was massing my Javelin Throwers. Eventaully, I end up razing 1/2 thier cities and eventually get them down to about 3. Basically, the slow warfare makes makes my production slow and I have 9 cities in a small area while everyone else has over 12.

So I was wondering...

Quick Warfare Tactics?

Thanks

Superior empire management. IOW do a better job of using what you have. Do not make building in every town. Make more workers and settlers. Make more attackers and a lot less spears.

Mass attackers and hit hard. You had a GA, so you should have been ripe to roll hard.

If you have lots of roads it helps. In 5 city regent game i used the tactic of decaring war, getting peace asap, reasembling my forces for 20 turns and repeat. I slowly was eating away aat a foe which was much bigger and stronger than me :)

you probably could have gotten peace after razing a couple of their cities.

But, you could also set up a settler factory and fill in the land you gained from razing cities with new ones of yours ;)

Since you are a Mets fan I will use small words. And since I'm a Cubs fan I don't know any big words so we're all set.

If you are playing at regent or lower you should not be letting any AI out expand you for the available territory. Until all the territory is claimed you should not be doing much more than building settlers, workers, granaries, warriors (MP's), and archers if you build a barracks in a city dedicated to making offense.

Don't go for a great wonder until all the land is claimed. After all the land is claimed don't go for a great wonder. :)

Also, if you're playing at regent or below you can get away with having very few defenders. That normally means you're better able to switch production if one of the AI's gets frisky or you refuse a tribute demand.

If you feel continuing the war isn't in your best interest then sue for peace. It sounds like after ripping the AI a new one you could have gotten peace with a few cities and their techs.

Another way of getting back in the tech hunt is to do "pointy stick research". Load up and slaughter your smarty pants neighbor. When he/she's down to a few cities they'll normally give you every tech they have. BTW, you have also just crippled them from out researching you for the rest of the game.

This is a great tactic that I am found of. Sometimes you can just wait for them to come to you (good if there is another civ between you and them and they demanded something you didn't want to give, and there is a chokepoint so they can't outflank you). The Babs just sent a stack of six warriors at me. I destroyed them all and then sued for peace, and they gave me a tech or two and whatever gold they had on hand. I didn't even have to come looking for them.

The problem with crippling a neighbor is then you can't use them to research techs for you. If you have someone else to do it then it is fine, but if you are rather isolated...I've shot myself in the foot this way before. If I'm going to cripple someone so that they're useless, I might as well just destroy them completely.
