While practicing bee-lining Liberalism over the last few days i,ve noticed that before my scientists can bulb Philosophy, they first have to bulb Compass and Calender i think it is??

By the time i get round to researching Education my capital city has produced 4 great scientists which up to this point i,ve saved up because i,ve already got an academy and made sure to bee-line Writing so that i could chop out the Great library asap.

The annoying thing is that at times the al will get Nationalism before i do and of course construct the Tag Mahal. Its really crappy when i,ve already fattend and prepared one of my cities to starve out engineers during the GA.

How can i get Compass and Calender out of the way asap so that i can be first to Philosphy get it out of the way and move on to Education.Usually if all go,s well i should have 2 scientists left over and with a golden age at least an engineer, hopefully 2.What can i do at this stage in the game with 2 scientists and 2 enginners??

Wait a sec, you bulb calender? I've never had that happen to me before. I think you mean math

Compass isn't a bad tech to bulb if you get a GS really early, but if you insist, just research it, trade it, or make it impossible to bulb.

Philosophy has preference over both compass and calender in BtS. If your GS can't bulb it it probably means you don't have the prereqs for Philo, which includes meditation. Kossin's signature has a .rar with a bunch of useful charts and tables including a GP preferences list if you're interested in looking for ways to beeline specific techs with GP bulbs.

Actually i,ve never bulbed Compass usually i research it and as well as that i,m the first to get it.What would you suggest is the best method to making it impossible to bulb Compass??

Well since you will bulb sailing in almost all circumstances when you'ld bulb compass, 'making it impossible to bulb compass' is not the right idea. A better idea would be, what other useful techs have preference over compass?

Here are the first 17 GS tech preferences in descending order(i.e. the higher on the list the more prefered). Pick any two techs on this list and if you have the capability of researching either of them this turn, your GS will bulb the one higher up. Almost every tech I'm interested in bulbing with a GS is on this list.

Writing
Mathematics
Scientific Method
Physics
Education
Printing Press
Fiber Optics
Computers
Laser (BTS)
The Wheel
Alphabet (BTS)
Philosophy
Chemistry
Fission
Fusion
Optics
Paper

Thats means that if i can for example research both paper and chemistry, then the scientist will automaticaly bulb chemistry??

^^ Yes and the list is actually quite long for the GS bulb preferences, but most of the important ones are in the top of the list.

Thanks for the tip i,ll make sure to plan my resaerch path using that tip,by the way i already printed out the GP bulb lists like 2 weeks ago.

Pretty bad ass if you can bulb writing with a Great Scientist

yeah right haha.that ironical humour is out of place here buddy, dont make an ass of yourself because if you care to read properly i wrote "i bee-line writing"

does your brain have difficulty distinquishing between bee-line and bulbing???:scan:

I guess he meant that it actually appears on the bulb list for scientists. Possibly impossible in a regular game - how would you ever get scientist GP points without writing? :crazyeye:

I read it as just him commenting on the humor of having Writing on the GS preferences list at all, not mockery of your strategy. I don't think there's any need to take offense here.

But while on the topic, you could bulb writing with a great scientist in a multiplayer game. Pull an early rush, then force your victim to gift you their first great scientist in exchange for your not exterminating them.

Edit: I was wondering why bother including it anyways; here's the best game-play reason I can come up with (as opposed to just because they felt like including it for aesthetic reasons). Were that not on the list, you could potentially use a gifted great scientist to grab iron working, metal casting, or horseback riding (all of which can be valuable techs). If two players connived at that in multiplayer, I suppose it could give them an unfair advantage.

Perhaps also it caters for mods where the modder might have early things like palaces or stonehenge giving GS points?
