Well, in most of the other Civs, a good strategy was to exploit any loopholes that the game provides, Civ 2 was particularly bad for this. It was amazing what you could accomplish with Caravans and Wonders at certain points in the game. However, it looks like most of the old familiar loopholes will be closed... whats a Deity supposed to do?

Curious to see what this game will be like, can't wait until tomorrow/Wednesday when it is released to the general public.

If any beta testers know of any new Quirks, post them here.

I don't think anyone will be playing Deity for a while, not until they develop Civ4 strategies of their own.

Oh, I don't know - you could play at deity (or higher - if avial) right off the bat - however, you would probably get squashed like a bug!

I've read one beta tester has already beat Civ4 at the deity equivalent.

Where did you hear that?
With all the activity in the Civ4 forum it could've been there IIRC I read it somewhere in one of Civrules thread. Solver said it maybe? but it could've been in the Civ3 SG forum discussing Civ4 plans. This may you a hint though.
Speaker's comments in the Civ4 RBC SG thread My guess it's highly probable either Sirian or Sullla would be the culprits.

Found it...

Yeah, but from what I've read some of the testers have had the game for 18 months now, and remember it's a beta test, so some of the AI code might not have been up to scratch :mischief:.

Diety in Civ 3 was certainly doable, if rather tricky sometimes. I don't think it took me 18 months to get my first diety win, in fact, I think it was only a few months. However, Civ 3 did have one or two small things (mainly to do with techs), which could be exploited mercilessly.

Also, I supose in a 1v1 very small game you could get lucky with starting locations, or just rush the AI and hope (I don't know if they get a unit bonus at the start like in Civ 3)
