Senator Rand Paul explains how a constitutionally conservative foreign policy would better serve and protect the United States. This comes as a stark contrast from the current bipartisan interventionism practiced by both parties. What do you guys think, is this a step in the right direction?

'We should base decisions on the landscape of the world as it is, not as we wish it to be'

Sounds like Kissinger never went away.

What? Wait... people still hate on Kissinger? Fascinating...

Either way its a speech at a think tank and I have little interest in hearing Rand Paul speak for too long right now, I agree can we hear a summary?

I don't see how his viewpoint is unreasonable. He basically telling us not to see invasion or bombing as the answer to our foreign diplomacy.
But he voted for the sanctions and he's defending them in front of the Heritage Foundation.

Yes US policy from someone whos name I never mention was responsible for arming, training and funding Osama Bin Laden and providing arms to radical Islam. Then 30mins of how good Regan's foreign policies.
Perfect Republican double think.

What a worthless statement. It can be made by absolutely anyone and used against absolutely anyone. This whole speech is rhetorical garbage. It's no surprise that it came from a member of the Paul family, notorious for being full of wind.

The whole speech was indeterminate. He basically just argued the middle ground against non-existent adversaries.

Having heard quite a bit about Rand Paul he made a surprising amount of sense. Too bad he's such a clown on domestic policy.

There is also that - a bit like saying 'we are in favour of the vulnerable being treated well, a well-defended nation, and a low crime rate'.

no sound, post summary please

tl;dw?

What brilliant ideas does this guy have for foreign policy? Anyone who watched the video.. how about a short point form list?

To me he didn't really say anything new and it was actually contradictory with his political views. He essentially said that the US should put war, international cooperation, sanctions, and other measures into its foreign policy tool box. As you can see, none of this is really new.

2 minutes in he already has facts wrong. It is not a small minority of radical muslims that hate America. It is the vast majority, our cultures are practically incompatible

Indeed, you are correct. The vast majority of radical Muslims hate America. Of course, radical Muslims comprise only a small minority of Muslims, but you are correct that radical Muslim culture is incompatible with America.

Just not Muslim culture in general.
