Not so much a rant as a bummer, but is Birth. Movies. Death. toast..? It looks like they haven't posted anything new in 8 weeks.

Not quite sure if this is a rant or a question, but what is going on with https://imgbb.com/? It is what I always use for quick image posting, and the "Embed Codes, HTML fully linked" gave me html code with a link to a poem, not in english so I cannot red it, as far as I know it could be something offensive. I have no idea what is going on with that.
Spoiler The HTML code it gave me. :

I went into a project sight unseen and thus gave a usual turnaround estimate. The work, however, is about three times what it normally should be. It should be okay, depending on how productive I can be when it reaches 98 F today.

You can have the thunderstorm I suspect we're going to have later this afternoon. We always get rain along with them (it's been a very rainy summer here, interspersed with occasional sunny days).

I've woken up about 1 hour earlier every day this week, culminating with me waking up this morning at 3am.

@Cutlass: Now that Trump has discovered the postal service exists and is destroying it as quickly as possible before October, is your job okay? I know you've been doing lots of overtime this summer.

I have been having a similar problem. I keep waking up earlier than I'm supposed to by a few hours and have to force myself to go back to sleep.

People are such children. People at work are starting throw little tantrums about having to get their temperature checked. They seemed okay with it at first, but I guess that's because they thought it would be a temporary thing. Now that they realize it's a permanent fixture (we are still going to be checking temps even after this is all over) they are starting to do little things like roll their eyes when reminded to do it or make snide little comments about it.

Again these are all grown adults, most in their 40s and 50s complaining about getting their temperature taken like some angry toddler at the doctor's office. It's not even like it's that bad of a process. The ones we use are mounted to the wall and you only have to stand in front of it for a couple seconds. Just wait until they find out that I've also been in the city manager's ear about making employees go through security just like visitors and the city manager is actually starting to listen to me about that.

Open question. See, Trump waited kind of late in his term of office to really fudge with USPS. Assuming he doesn't steal the election with voter fraud, he's only got 6 months left before he leaves to screw it up. And he has the House of Representatives in the hands of Americans, so there's laws that can not be passed to really destroy the place.

That said, the Senate is in the hands of the Russians, and they are cooperating in doing everything possible to cripple USPS ahead of the election, so that mail in voting fails. Trump just appointed a new Postmaster General, who is screwing with all sorts of things. All of which will delay mail delivery and disrupt service. And they have a plan with the Secretary of the Treasury to unilaterally remove the postal unions contracts, which will destroy the Post Office for the objective of putting a million more American families on welfare.

It's all up in the air at this point, what will actually go into effect and what won't. They really missed their best chance before the 2018 election, when both Houses of Congress were held by Russians.

    https://www.salon.com/2020/07/15/di...delivery-amid-calls-to-expand-voting-by-mail/

All that said, rural America, which votes more Russian, is also more dependent on a functional Post Office than urban America is. So there will be push back from that direction. And as big of a windfall for Crony Capitalism Incorporated as privatizing USPS would be, Corporate America is not going to tolerate service interruptions which cost their businesses money. So the Trumphadists have to watch out for push back from that direction as well.

The new senior management plans that are filtering down to me are worded as confrontationally as possible, as if their goal is to piss off workers and generate resistance to their reforms. But they are also worded as if actual delivery of the mail is not a consideration to them. So for example we're told that the cost of overtime is too high and unsustainable, so from this moment forward there will be no approved overtime.

Yet this is what our overtime usage looks like.

    USPS !.jpg

Which is to say that our OT is both variable, and peaks in the Christmas season, where we can't deliver Christmas without it, and it has been trending upwards in general for a lot of years, because the same senior management which is now telling us we cannot do overtime has also been continually making changes which drive increased OT usage, such as deliberately keeping staffing numbers down as far as possible. So every Postal employee sees this, and their first reaction is that the mail just won't get delivered. Because senior management hasn't said a single word about how to actually accomplish their objective of getting all that overtime work done without the actual, you know, overtime work.

So what we're seeing from the bottom is all about disruptions initiated from the top. And that's on top of the fact that Covid has badly disorganized USPS finances, which the Republicans have been working to sabotage since GW Bush was president. And which Moscow Mitch personally intervened to make worse with the first Covid relief law.

So I'm not expecting layoffs. I am expecting that contract provisions will end up having to be decided in the courts. And the Trumphadists have been undermining the professionalism and integrity of the US federal court system as well. But things could return to more or less normal after the next president takes office.

That said, the world is changing. And USPS will have to change with it. But that's a more gradual thing, and will evolve slowly over time, unless there's a lot of political intervention.

OK, so I have some non-official lines of contact with people in lower manglement. And what's coming down from on high right now is a plan to make it more difficult and slower to sequence that portion of the mail which cannot be machine sequenced. :wallbash:

Both in content and in form. Ambiguous sentences, weasel words, bad phrasing, bad punctuation and spelling, ugh! It's very much the genuine stuff.

    Getting new dishwasher today.
JL said they couldn't install it because of covid-19 but would deliver it and take away the old one so we found a local plumber who would install the new one.
JL delivery guy arrives today and says he can't uninstall it unless he is installing it as well and we haven't paid for that. Then says he could've installed it today but can't take payment.
Ends up with dishwasher left in garage and I will have to chase JL customer services to get new date for them to install dishwasher and collect old one. [pissed]:wallbash::gripe:

Somebody should remind Trump that small businesses depend on timely mail delivery, and many of their customers are international. I'm getting better delivery of parcels from the U.S. now than I am from Ontario; I ordered some things from Mary Maxim in APRIL and they haven't come yet. That's from the warehouse in Ontario. And yes, I know "COVID, etc., etc., etc.," but commercial truckers are essential so they are allowed across provincial borders. Their response to my latest "where's my stuff" email was to say "mid-August".

If I don't have my stuff by the end of August, I will be demanding a refund. It's not like the items are coming from European countries that aren't shipping to Canada during the pandemic.

It's not about Trump, so Trump don't care. Unless someone convinces him that it is about Trump. Which is the only way to change his mind on anything.

It is raining inside my walls and ceilings and I have water all over the place. Massive leak somewhere upstairs, and I've been spending the last hour trying to rescue books, shelves, and mopping up filthy water with the help of paper towels (Swiffer mops aren't very useful for this much water).

I'm told I'm not the only one having a problem, but <every 4-letter word in the book> this time I am NOT paying for cleanup or moving. This falls under the category of sudden, and it's NOT my fault, and right now I am so effing angry that I could honestly pitch whoever is responsible for this off the edge of the roof and watch them go splat.

Twice in 3 years, not counting the copious plumbing issues in the kitchen and bathroom.

It's 5 am here, and I intended to be asleep so I could get up in time to put a grocery order in (long weekend so the next chance is Tuesday). But now I don't dare go to bed, and the plumbers are in and out.

Hopefully Maddy doesn't get sick from this. She has to walk in this mess with bare paws and then she licks them...
