Another day, another hack. The real problem is the response, to ask companies and intelligence agencies to be nice, rather than for people to ensure their devices are secure. That will work sure.

To quote GW Bush, fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. It was years ago we found out that whatsapp cares not a whit about its users privacy, WTF are people like jorno's and government ministers still using it? Do these people really care less about their own personal security than I do, when I do not really have a realistic threat risk?

The one you quoted a day or so back seemed to think that Telegram, which is theoretically trying to be somewhat more secure(at least its whole appeal is cooked if it's proven to be not), is a "right-wing fever-swamp" "like quad-image-board." So, I dunno, cultural arrogance?

I'm also sort of glad I don't have more people reading what I type, much less typing what I say.

They are selling themselves as more secure, but no software is secure unless you have full control over the the code and keys.

True. And a couple years back I remember a law enforcement agency, after some sort of terrorist attack, breathlessly explain that they couldn't have found the plans, because they were done in person with speech rather than over the internet. Why government officials and military personnel with high risk secrets aren't prohibited from having full internet access, who knows? Everyone just gave up.

You could stop them using the internet, or you could educate them on how to use the internet safely. Lots of people manage to use the internet and keep out of the clutches of 3 letter agencies.

Lots of people are uninteresting unless you can steal their stuff en masse.

I mean that people manage to buy drugs, hit men and kiddie porn on the internet, and most get away with it. It is just a question of how much effort you want to take.

The heatwave here is beyond terrible. It's been over 30 degrees most of the day for weeks now.
I don't feel like doing anything.

I went today to the gym, where I had last year an abonement (from June last year to June this year; I was an optimist), to ask regarding a new abonement and a price discount.
I went inside, nobody at the counter. There was some class going on, which would take another 15 minutes. A few guys were outside chatting.
I wait, and wait, and wait... and nothing happens.
The class finishes, the instructor comes out, talks a short while with the participants (also at the counter), and walks away. Pretty sure he saw me standing there the whole while, also during his class.
The guys from outside come in, at least one of them seems to be an employee, since some of the class participants approach him. They talk, and talk, and talk...never-ending. After that, they leave, the guy looks around, goes to his office.
    Really? Man, please think along.
I went then to him, he didn't speak English.
I tried my best to formulate my question, also with google translate. He offers me a 50€ discount, from 450 down to 400.
There is a new gym in my neighbourhood, which is a) still cheaper than this b) is closer to my place and c) has longer opening ours. And while I know that small bussinesses are struggling with the pandemic, I really didn't feel like paying this guys butt while he's sitting outside and chatting.
So I decided to go to the new gym, just to find out that I have no idea how to reach it, since it seems to be inside a gated community (common here).
Crap. Guess I'll email them, to figure this out.
So... I was mad today .

Ungh gated communities suck. I sort of think municipal water should stop at the gates.

Rant: Xenforo ate this post of mine yesterday. At least it saved a copy.
Or the leg-locker curse, ‘locomotor mortis’.
It might interest you that I am making myself, almost every night, one small pot of broth/soup into which I throw broken-up spaghetti for the last ten minutes (I have to resupply on ditalini, I only have ditali.) so this is ongoing research. For science.

And yes, of course sorrentini are large ravioli.

It's common here also, a great option for gym+pool+sauna are most exist within cluster. That's why I never really bother going to one, even though I like the sauna.

 That's ingenuity! I'll have to try it myself once the heat is gone!

    So far the results are:
    1. sausage, onion, garlic, hard-boiled egg: pass.
    2. chicken, leek, onion, carrot, garlic: bland (recommendation: simply fry the chicken in batter to be served as side dish)
    3. leftover oven-roasted pork, onion, leek, garlic: best (served with lettuce-tomato-hardboiled egg-oil-vinegar salad)
I have to think up something for tonight.

BTW, if anyone cares about this Amnesty have released a tool to try and see if you got hacked. Apparently works better on iphones than android. This is their writeup of what they did to find it.

There seems to be no way to release ourselves from this cyber panopticon. We are strip from our privacy, we can't do nothing about it, whenever I run my cc cleaner there always tons of tracker removed, it's just nuts.

I have been thinking about how to control my digital footprint. I am pretty low risk, but I may try:

Catastrophic failure of the plumbing in my office building has closed all of the restrooms until further notice. If I need to pee, there's a Starbucks nearby that has restrooms, but they're supposed to be for customers. I could buy a coffee and use the restroom. But then I'll drink the coffee, so I'll need to use the restroom again. So I could go back to Starbucks, buy another coffee, use the restroom, drink the coffee, go back to Starbucks... :undecide:
