The dynamic of who has to drive doesn't change until you pop out a kid. At which point it's harder for you to travel, and the kiddo is blackmail since the extended family usually does want to actually see them. At which point it's easier for them to jam a 12 and 14 year old in the car than for you to travel with a one year old that invariably has a cold since it's winter, and if he/she didn't before the parties, he/she will have one after being hugged, pinched, and kissed by people from three states of colds wide.
