the mayfly man thing was a good redirect; they let us know that Charles Augustus Milverton Magnusson was going to be around, presumably for the final episode in addition to that Guy Fawkes thing, and served us up a plot that looked tailor-made for the blackmail plotline, and then it turned into good old Jonathan Small from the Great Fort at Agra. Even did a homage to the original method of killing Sholto by having that "case of the poison giant", with Dinklage (?) playing the Andaman Islander with the blowpipe.
