Should I be afraid?
Of a teenager?
I think we did still quite well though .
Eventually. It's a very long game.
Let me just check when exactly he lived...mmhh... nah, seems we were doing fine at that time already, unless I'm missing something.
It was meant as a joke, but admittedly, maybe a bit weak.
It certainly must have been vindictive gossip indeed. Everyone in the high courts of Europe in that day knew well only the Habsburgs got up to that kind of thing.
There's an old Polish lady on the train eating pierogies out of her coat pocket.
Well, internal wars among various petty Dukedoms you are either missing or consider part of "doing fine," but that's more or less what I was saying that Machiavelli was urging "the prince" to put a stop to on the Italian peninsula.
In retrospect maybe if all of Europe had stuck with loose confederation across a bunch of petty dukedoms that were more likely to squabble among themselves than form large nation states and squabble on a grander scale maybe we'd all be better off, but by Machiavelli's time England was already unified into the wicked witch of the north, the Iberians had gelled down to a small number of substantial sized nations, and more frightening than anything else the possibility of some king emerging and bringing all the petty nobles of France to heel under a single banner was looming very large.
The first version of The Prince was published in 1513. By 1500, Spain was united (except tiny Navarre); France was, as was England. Northern Italy was about a dozen states. Germany was also messy.
Maybe she has really clean pockets? Maybe her pocket was lined with wax paper?
She must have been hungry.
It's not that bad. Eaten of f the ground camping.
I found this very silly First of all why would she be there ? Why Would she be eating our (delicious dish really ??!! and out of the pocket ? ) and why would she be travelling on the train the exact day You did ? It sounds a bit far fetched to me.
Most peculiar thing however is that I can't find shadowplay's post in this thred ! I am sorry @shadowplay I think I am being played with by the forces I do not comprehend.
England had already been united for 500 years at this point. We'd even gone through two messy civil wars in the meantime!
Yup Spain 1492, France more or less late 15th century.
I've been trying out the latest edition of Jewel Match Solitaire. The theme is Atlantis, which means the castles are built underwater. I was puttering along on the game when I realized that whoever did the effects for this edition got lazy... they included the sound effects for the Twilight version, so as I'm building this castle underwater I can listen to the soothing sounds of softly hooting owls.
Hah !! Speak to Æthelred the Unready as our Longships and Drakkars unload upon the England pleasent green shores !
