What's with all the Americans sneaking into Canada to do touristy stuff? The borders are supposed to be closed. Do we have to build a wall and make them pay for it??
I guess you read about that billionaire woman allowed in to supposedly check on her office or factory, and she didn't have to self-isolate? Apparently money talks, in her case.

Some Americans seem to think their "Amendment rights" are a thing here. Or somehow it doesn't matter that they're flouting a foreign country's laws.

Did you notice the increasing number of comments on CBC.ca in which some people are saying that rather than allow driving from the U.S. to Alaska, just let them take the ferry from the U.S. side, and they won't have to enter Canada at all? There's lots of scenery to look at from the boat, and nobody will be at increased risk.

It's increasingly annoying to find them wandering around Banff and Jasper when they're supposed to be on the highway heading north, or camping somewhere in BC. Seriously, people, the mountains have been there for tens of millions of years. They're not going anywhere any time soon.

The border is supposed to be open to residents and essential workers only. That said, there are a couple of small communities not far from the BC-Alaska border that interact closely in normal times - shopping, banking, going to school back and forth across the border. The people there are begging Ottawa to consider them a closed bubble situation so people can shop and the kids can go to school.

Sounds as overburdened as a Chicago dog. Just found out about those tonight. I have no idea how someone can eat a hot dog with so much on it. Although I'm morbidly obese curious.

these hot dogs are also very cheap (R$2/CA$0.50) and often invoke the ire of health inspectors, personally I tend to just add ketchup, cheese and the thin crisps

there's also burgers, subs and pizzas with the same sort of style around here

There's something amusing about having entire conversations that consist only of cat GIFs.

I want to start asking my boss about stretching out my maternity leave, by maybe working 4 half-day mornings a week (taking 3 days off for 25 weeks instead of 5 days for 20 weeks)

They are going to be screwed without me for 4 months, and I can at least get my critical work done in a couple hours a few days a week.

Can you do that from home?

I've been working from home for 6 years.

I'd probably only need to really work for 1-2 hours a day, 4 days a week. For half a year. It'd mean I wouldn't have a single obligation after about 11 am, which would be huge.

My "day" would likely be logging into my work computer, pushing out a handful of reports, maybe attend a call every so often, and then shut down.

I think you forgot "cleaning up the messes that they get into without you around."

That's what I'd be avoiding :)

I've done half-day vacations before, where I took 2 weeks of vacation and stretched it out over a whole month. It was glorious.

Sounds like a great idea. I hope she goes for it.

On the Peggy's Cove lighthouse cam, I just witnessed three people walking up the path and....I think they just went on the rocks. During a tropical storm.

Well, the same stupidity (e.g. oh I thought it wouldn't happen if we did it standing up) also ensures that we tend to outbreed our Darwin Award winners.

I just got a Nigerian scam email...from myself. Both the sender and the reply-to mail were set to my own email address (email headers show it was spoofed). I'm not sure how they expect anybody to actually respond to that.

Seems like orange cats are more likely to be fat than other colors of cats
I once knew an orange tabby with diabetes. He seemed to be an average-sized tomcat.

It's true that some varieties of cats are genetically prone to certain medical issues. For example, I draw the line at white-haired, blue-eyed cats. I've dealt with two deaf/nearly-deaf dogs (worked out a kind of sign language with them), but training a deaf cat is something I couldn't even begin to tackle.
