If you're watching Doctor Who from the beginning, you're starting with William Hartnell, aka the First Doctor. If you're watching season 7, you're watching the first season of Jon Pertwee, the Third Doctor.

I don't like The Idiot's Lantern either. His best stories are in Season 3, I think.

I thought The Satan Pit was pretty good.

There wasn't a perfect option for me to pick as I'm more line with "Tennant, then I don't care" (they're all decent)

or of course Whooves, Tennant, then I don't care

Smith, Eccleston, Tennant. As Doctors, not "I liked the stories in season N better." Tennant was fun to watch but incredibly melodramatic, too much so for an alien. Eccleston was surprisingly good, but I think Smith is the overall best of the new bunch.

    This is how I felt.
He was great at being silly and awful at being serious.
And he did have to be serious a lot of the time.

Yeah. I really like him as an actor, and his Doctor was great at being funny and enthusiastic and zany, but there was just too much overwrought excessive weeping and carrying on.
