Rat 33 - AWE 3BC - pangaea

I can say that the next player can bring this one home, there are no real barriers to a Conquest victory within 5 or so turns. Persia is down to Longbows and Rifles just like Arabia and we have artillery and 15 Armies to take 18 enemy cities. Should be easy now, have fun!

Spoiler :

Pre-Flight: CivAssist 2, Word running. Open the save, look things over.
Looks petty good. Move an eSpear to Osaka to quell the resistance there. Move the Knight army out of Norwich on rails to preserve its unmoved status. Wouldn’t want to lose it to the Persian Cavalry in range, hopefully the 4 Muskets will protect it adequately.

IBT: Arabs send 2 Rifles and 3 LBs to Tokyo, land a Rifle and LB near Hattusas.
2 Persian Cavalry attack, 1 loses at Coventry, 1 wins at Norwich.
English want to talk..nah. Some annoying MoW and frigate bombardment.
Rome Cavalry=>Cavalry.
Sapporo Worker=>Worker.

Turn 1, 1405 AD: Kill 5 more Rifles, 3 regulars, 2 conscripts, 3 armies heavily damaged, but London is ours, 1 slave and 489 gold taken. I don’t raze it yet, hoping to grab 1 more city to get another army.
Lose a healthy Cavalry to a 2hp one…..the RnG loves me.
Do some short-rushing to thrash out some Cavalry. We need more!
Move 3 armies to York, wonder if that’s enough?

IBT: More annoying Persian Frigate bombardment.
Persian Cavalry manhandles a Musket at London, another one loses along with an English one.English one, Arab LB suicides on a Musket at Hattusas.

Get 3 Armies to Canterbury.

IBT: More annoying Persian Frigate bombardment.
Persian Cavalry manhandles a Musket at London, This is annoying as hell, they are using English Roads to get to us. Pillaging time, now that armies are healed.
English scrape up another Cavalry.
Veii Cavalry=>Cavalry.
Yokohama Worker=>Worker.
Hakodate Aqueduct=>Galleon.
Aden Cavalry=>Cavalry.

More cleanup duty. More core railing. Move 3 armies to Newcastle.

IBT: English land 4 Cavalry at Hattusas.

Seoul Temple=>Courthouse.
Rome Cavalry=>Cavalry.
Tarsus Worker=>Worker.
Osaka Worker=>Galleon.
Tokyo Worker=>Worker.
Cheju Marketplace=> Cavalry.
Kagoshima Worker=>Worker.
Coventry Worker=>Worker.

Turn 4, 1420 AD: 1 army kills 3 Rifles losing hp, another army loses that many on a regular Cavalry, Newcastle is ours along with a Cannon, 2 workers and 546 gold.
Killing a Persian Cavalry gets us a leader, but we don’t have enough cities.
I have finished upgrading all Trebuchets and Catapults to Cannons.

IBT: English keep coming up with Cavalry, I think we need to re-pillage their Saltpeter, our Muskets are dwindling. Another one dies to British Cavalry.
They land a Cavalry at Hattusas.
On a related note, the Persians nearly kill a healthy Knight army guarding Newcastle.
Trondheim Cavalry=>Cavalry.

Turn 5, 1425 AD: Find Persia’s 2nd source of Saltpeter, will pillage it next turn. I can pillage their Horses too, so they will be down to Immos soon.
As I explore, I get a sinking feeling there’s a good sized island in the fog with 2 English cities and 3 or 4 Persian ones. Set armies up to take Tyre.

IBT: English Cavalry retreats from a Musket, another Persian Cavalry tries a Knight Army at Newcastle.
Bergen Cavalry=>Cavalry.
Copenhagen Cavalry=>Cavalry.
Inch’on Worker=>Worker.

Turn 6, 1430 AD: Tyre falls after I kill 3 Rifles and an Immo, 24 gold taken.
Set armies up to take Bactra.
Pillage Persian Saltpeter and Horses, wishing I had sooner.

IBT: Cool, no actual attacks this turn, or landings.
More annoying bombardment.
Some movement by Persian Immos, Knights and Cavalry, 1 English Cavalry.
Arabs keep sending Rifles at Yokohama, but dribs and drabs only.
Trondheim Cavalry=>Cavalry.
York deposes, taking a Knight army….damn Cavalry made Muskets useless.
Ise Musket=>Musket.

Turn 7, 1435 AD: Lose 5 hp from a Cavalry Army re-taking York, 446 gold taken.
Lose 11 hp killing 2 veteran Rifles, 1 regular, Bactra taken, along with 22 gold.
Losing the Army allowed the eader to become an Army, form 1st Odin’s Cavalry.

IBT: Annoying Bombardment continues, Again, no attacks, all I see are Immos, Rifles and Longbows…. I think the next turn-set will finish this off.
Replaceable Parts arrives, next is Industrialization in 13 turns at 200 gpt. I doubt we’ll need factories to win this.
Rome Cavalry=>Cavalry.
Veii Cavalry=>Cavalry.

Cleaning up an Immo gives me another leader, so I lost 1 army and gained 2.
2nd Odin’s Cavalry formed and loaded.

Arbela and Antioch will have artillery support.
Our new Frigate finds Orange border, now to find out whether it is a 1 tile island.

IBT: Lots of 1 move units move, nothing worrisome, standard bombardment.
Hattusas Worker=>Worker.
P’yongyang Galleon=>Galleon.
Copenhagen Cavalry=>Cavalry.
Aden Cavalry=>Cavalry.
Yamama Cavalry=>Cavalry.
Muscat Cavalry=>Cavalry.

Turn 10, 1450 AD: Cavalry army loses 7 hp killing a redlined Rifle, kills the next 2 clean, Antioch is ours, 24 gold taken.
Cavalry army loses 4 hp killing 3 redlined Rifles, Arbela is ours, 25 gold taken.
Cavalry army loses 9 hp killing 3 redlined Rifles, Warwick is ours, 337 gold taken.
2 Cavalry armies lose 4 hp killing 3 Rifles, an Immo and 2 Longbows, Pasargadae is ours, 26 gold taken.
England is not on a 1 tile island, so barring settlers on boats, we are all clear for the next player to win this.

Settlers on boats, grr, what a pain. Nice win guys!

Congrats all!

It still amazes me how fast one can win with the arrival of rails...

Good teamplay...so what's next as someone said this series is tradition and can not die

I have an idea for a game, but I'm not sure how viable it would be. The basic idea is 0% science "almost" AW.

0% science - no sci slider, no geeks, no libs, no GLib, no ToE.

AW - normal AW rules except that you can make peace treaties for the sole purpose of extorting techs from the AI.

What do you guys think?

At that rate, you must milk neighbors for tech, rather boring IMO.

Good work all. A fun game.

I am up for another game. Not sure how that would play out either Elephantium. I think I'd be willing to try if others like it.

As another alternative, I would like trying a totally random AWE (including civ and map type - with map size debatable) if ppl are interested in that.

Random AWE works for me. I assume no added variants to make up for the chance of getting say England on a Pangaea. Basic AW rules, strategy determined by world type and tribe.....I'm in.

AWE everything random? I can start ot this weekend. Is there anyone who wouldn't play?

AWE Random often failed with no bonus terrain.

You keep shooting down ideas...

Got anything positive to contribute to the thread?

Edit: Sorry, rereading my post, that came across as more flamey than I intended. Perhaps I was a bit cranky from having my game idea deemed 'boring' :( It WOULD be nice if you'd suggest something, though!

Actually the shape of the land around you is more important than a bonus resource and any map can have that problem. AWE is always a gamble and not always winnable. I don't feel the lack of a bonus is game killing.

I would say go for it and we can see. If things seem iffy at 20 then go for 30 turns. Some games with no bonus won't make it to 30 in which case we try again.

We aren't afraid to fail, not that we want to. It wouldn't be fun if we know we will win. I like the idea of random, just hope we get someone not thoroughly played by us in this series.

I'm sorry that I sound rude and depressing, well, at least we should give it a try, I apologize.
