    [10]1175 AD

well this was my last round.. I managed to hold the tide well enough but man archers are WORTHLESS here.

The AI ran out of units to send at us, next ten rounds will prolly be easy and the 10 after will get flattened.

The units at delhi are insane

not much else to say but this.. all wins are in blue... review the delhi fights.

I counted 66 and 13 not exatly trivial to count them all.

    Cheers!

    save

    Pre-Turn
we still have 3 cities and I am determined to keep them during my reign
we need a medic in Bombay I'd say

    IT no attack

    1. 1180AD
nth to do here for us

IT our land is cleanly sweeped from all improvements we ever had
    beat 2 at Bombay [2-0]

    2. 1185AD
    zzz

IT 3:0 on defense for us [5-0]

    3. 1190AD
    get a nice shiny cat

IT 2:0 for us and all the camera movement seriously makes me sick [7-0]

    4. 1195AD
beat a wounded horse at Bombay and since there is nobody close send out workers to connect horses
Custer beats a spear without scratch [9-0]

IT in fact the units are running off, but I spot a Roman pretorian, hmm that could get really ugly

    5. 1200AD
manage to get a pasture at the horses, really funny

IT our galley in the east sinks 2 galleys and lives another day [11-0]

    6. 1205AD
horses hooked up but a chariot isn't really that attractive
    big stacks next to Delhi
time to use that cat, it actually take out a keshik and does damage to 6 more units, good cat [12-0]

IT we go 15:1 on defense mainly at Delhi, only a useless archer lost, it's plain amazing
but better units are coming now closer [27-1]

    7. 1210AD
beat an archer near Bombay [28-1]

IT go 12:1 on defense at Delhi and Bangalore but lose archer there, it might be a lost cause I guess
better units showing up, such as phants and prets [40-3]

    8. 1215AD
with our units pretty beat at Delhi decide to suicide the cat again
this time it loses but does some good damage [40-4]

IT 7:1 even beat the pret without trouble, but we lose a precious spear, guess from here it will go downhill [47-5]

    9. 1220AD
by mistake run into an Incan galley and beat it [48-5]
we'll get a slight breather as there is only 1 phnat now

IT 7:2, but we lost Bangalore to Rome in the end, no way to keep it [55-7]

    10. 1225AD
we can now run at 90% science  and still get feudalism in 20
copper is mined, next turn we can hook it up and change to nicer units builds
in case we survive the IT
there are 25 potential attackers now next to Delhi

All I can say is ouch.

 I have to wonder what you guys hope to accomplish at this point.

2 cities this late in the game is a pretty much shot position.

In always war, shouldn't it be every man for himself? Or does the rule only apply to you?

The rules only apply to the human. Every AI is at war with the human while they peacefully talk and trade techs with eachother. I just got done with an AW game where I was slaughtered because the AI's were so far ahead in techs.

I have noticed that when a civ is at war with another civ they will never go to war for me (the option is redded out), so it follows that in an AW game the AI will rarely war with each other and peacefully trade tech, without going down a difficulty level you could just set the options at for "No Tech Trading" and "Aggressive AI," This might help in your next game of AW.

I am also unsure how many wonders you can afford to build in an AW game, I mean how many axes could you have built for the pyramids??? Building the pyramids or most any wonder (Oracle exception and some map dependent stuff too) is a long term investment, in AW you need to have all the AI subdued BEFORE they get a tech lead and they will get a tech lead. Even with no trading the Fin. civs are going to out tech you due to the simple fact that their lands won't be pillaged down to the dirt.

On the plus side, I think that the raging barbs was a good choice, this negates some of the AI's intial advantage since they don't handle combat as well as the human does. Your camping outside of Rome was nice http://sirian.warpcore.org/civ3/epic14.html that is the Civ3 version of that, you should try and do that to everyone.

What would you guys do the same/differently if you played this game again?

ps. I hope this did not sound critical, I do not think I could have won this game, especially with the No Razing, I was aiming for an analytical tone. Anyway I always learn more from losing than winning, all winning teachs you to do is repeat what you did.

yup atlas.. Think the number one whammy was the no raze; Civ4 is just too unforgiving about unchecked expansion.

As for the no tech trades, that's a good idea if it applies to all parties. Never looked at the nibbly details.

As for wonders... Pyramids = police state, that pays for itself imo. Oracle = free metal casting or civil service though not sure how viable the civl slingshot would be.

Sirian is starting a similar AW game after patch with the RB heavey weights, so I'll watch that one with great interest using the drubbing I learned here.:D

    Cheers!

It would have been great if we could have pressured more civs at the start, but we didn't know where they were until too late. Jules got handled pretty well, but there is still a lot of fog in the world, and the other civs keep sending waves at us. We have tried to pillage and set back the other civs with pillaging etc.., but the numbers coming at us are impressive. They really don't like us!

Rat has been knocking them down like crazy (insane kill/death ratio's), but even then, math is our enemy. Superior promotions are losing ground against numerical superiority.

All comments about this game are valid. Maybe our settings were a little too lopsided against us, but I'm still in it to the bitter end. We could try this again, with adjusted settings, and perhaps a lot more water. An island map or something? I like the idea of always war, but always war against so many civs who are working like they are in a permanent alliance is something else.

If you deny common sense long enough, you can still look for a way to win. :crazyeye:

Eight civs on a Pangaea map are just too far away to keep track of. There's still one civ we haven't met yet, somewhere to the east...

Got it. I won't even get a chance to play it until Friday, but I got it.

atlas, good points there. I agree that one has to be fast to supress the AI rather than building a lot of wonders. In Civ3 maybe you could sit back a little in AW. But here, you got no choice to go all the way out and stop the AI from improving their lands.
Of course this setting here wasn't really suitable but as one can see the Romans were completely stalled due to our oppression strategy.

For AW in Civ4 even prince is a challenge on pangaea.

hmm facinating.. Monty was the last civ, and only had 1 town.. guess that's why we never saw him.

Well ugly game for sure but lots learned. Have far more appreciation for the no raze feature now. If one wants to enforce a peacful game, clicking no raze would make for very interesting results on a larger map.

    Fun game :)

    Darn. thinking of RB11.B?

Would gladly play this xcept that I am now mostly out of time.

Sorry for my lack of presence in the end. and mike the potato should have ended on me.

So maybe a AW City Razing allowed, no Trades tech same civ but island hopping style?

Soul, real life interferes in the land of CIV (and moo!!!!!) SG's such that no one is immune... well maybe other than rat, the SG monster hahaha.:)

As for your absence, you notified completely and clearly leaving no one to guess, such that no blame can possibly be placed anywhere at all.

This SG was a learning experience for many, as seemingly benign settings made this SG almost impossible.

Thank you for the honor to sink with this ship mate!:worship:
