RB18(b): Romanus eunt domus (again)!

Well firstly we hoped that JC was researching Literature rather than Iron Working.....

We pick up Archery in 3220BC. Iron in 44, that's harsh. I go for Fishing, so we can use the Holy Beavers.

Looky looky here, what's this?

Fishing comes and goes and Animals are in, hoping for those horses!!!

What do you think you're doing?

No horses. Here's where I sign off, not really any better off than when I started.

Parting thoughts: Once the worker is built, maybe chop out a settler for a second city on the floodplains to the north?!

Whoever picks up this train wreck, Brother Talamane I believe, feel free to change the research, currently on Agriculture (I haven't put any turns into it but suspect soemone previously has!?!).

Do we bite the 40 turn bullet and go for iron?

Here's the save...

Ozzie, nice going for the short time you played ~ at some point, we'll get iron ~ let's just go for it, i think. We've already got archery and we'll need the axes for defense ASAP!

To remind us all:
Variants:
* Teamed up with the Raging Barbs.
* We are locked into war with the Romans.
* When Bureacracy is researched, we must revolt to it and stay in it all game.

* We can never research the following techs:
Refrigeration
Medicine
Education
Monarchy
Code of Laws

* We must always haggle in our diplomacy dealings.
* We must never give in to blackmail. NO BLACKMAIL!

If we're going for iron, I would suggest abandoning the worker for a few turns (putting some hammers into a barracks?), moving our circles to the beavers and lake for the +5 gold, expand to size 3 and move back to worker, leaving the beavers and lake square in use. This will save 5-10 turns on the iron but will delay the worker by much the same.

I didn't revolt to slavery as when the cursor hovered over the button, a hundred voices screamed out of the screen. "DON"T YOU OPPRESS ME!!!"

Equally, I didn't revolt to Organised Religion as we're yet to build a building. Anyway, the PFJ is about disorganised religion

Well, around 2600 BC, these guys show up:

Nooooooooooooooooo........ Don't explore with the axes, stupid! Use the wildlife!

Hamburg was gone about two turns later. :) Finished agri, trying for iron working, and started a rax. Wanted the HQ to get up to a decent size, with a farm and a mine before making a settler. Played to turn 60, whatever that is. :p

OH, its 2230 BC

Eeep, that makes it me next!

Chances are very good that I won't be able to play tonight, so if Imhotep want to jump infront for this rotation....?

@Dreylin:

That turns out to be perfect as I would not have been able to play tomorrow or on the weekend due to some law exam training tests. I'll grab it and play this evening.

·Imhotep·

Sweet ~ I'm guessing Hamburg was the JPF's 2nd city ~ i forgot they get an extra settler on monarch (rather, i forgot that we were on Monarch).

@ Tally, by chance, did you switch around the city tiles to get more commerce?

@Dreylin, Imho ~ FINE BY ME! jerks. ;)

@pholky phumble:

Jerk ? Who ? Me ? I guess the guy that states the AI gets an extra Settler on Monarch (in fact they just get an extra worker and 2 archers) shouldn't behave like a loudmouth on such occasions... ;) :D

Anyway I got it and will play now...

·Imhotep·

yes, you're all very clever, beating up on poor pholk :( (though i particularly like the "loudmouth" part)

I sat beside a stony shelf
and the East Wind came to me
"Oh mighty wind, tell my poor self
what is there to see."

The roaring Wind then spoke to me
"Do you know what it takes ?
I was sighing by the gates
of Wome by the sea."

The East Wind left my listening ear
to turn back to the sea
I heard a silver trumpet near
from West it came to me.

"Oh trumpet call what news you bring
out of the utter West ?"
"In Bactrian I heard them sing
that Non-Splitters were the best !"

I called upon the workers
and said: "Pray, bring me more cash
for if not all you lurkers
will be whipped by leather lash."

A man then came before my door
he said he heard my call
and brought me precious bronze ore
from Wome before it's fall.

The silver trumpet sounded twice
so sweet I heard it chant
from cities prosper, strong and nice
away in western land.

And up and down the mighty wall
I heard my people yell
"The PFJ will never fall
its fame is classical !"

From Bactrian to homeland shore
a man came, wise and learned in lore
"Lord, to hear me I bid thee
I learn you mighty Masonry."

A flame of spirit caught our men
"We will walk through wood and fen
and we will return not before
we have found precious Iron ore."

From East I then heard panic cries
I looked and saw a vast smoke rise
the very earth was shaken
Cumae had been taken.

In my mind's eye I saw him stand
tall and proud and quick to strike
he will conquer all the land
and Romans he will never like.

The East Wind moans upon my gate
"Oh Wind, so mighty and so great
tidings you can bring from far
tell me, how things out there are."

"I quickened my pace and flew
by Cumae fresh captured and new
and heard that people quailed
the Axe in battle failed."

These tidings alas ! then
spread to every citizen
and by sun or moon
they got so angry soon.

To the East Wind then I fled
"Do you remember what you said ?
I do know what it takes
they broke Cumae's gates."

If ever after me
this song will come to thee
remember it, my lord
alas my reign was short.

And the save...

Edit:

Some notes: I revolted to Slavery so whip those slackers at the HQ. I didn't revolt to OR because I guess we will mainly build units - real units - for a longer time...

Bravo! Bravo! Well done, Timmy. So Cumae is lost to the splitters. We'll deal with them just after we deliver our demands.

1) Immediate dismantlement of the Imperialist state.

2) There shall be no wearing of sandals on the Sabath.

3) All wines Roman shall immediately be surrendered into PFJ custody.

4) There is no point four.

Every hour, on the hour, we shall deliver small severed bits of Pilot's wife to show that we mean business.

Indeed.

Bravo! Bellisimo!

And, let us tell them that they bear full responsibility, and we will not submit to blackmail. NO BLACKMAIL!!

EDIT: re: slavery ~ i must say, i agree with Dreylin. Though the rules do not prohibit it, the oppression of the Slaver class at the hands of the brutal capitalist rulers does not seem fitting ~

Too late - I already revolted to it. If that's not appropriate let's just pretend we were forced to do it because of Roman oppression ;) :D .
