Techs that give our brother things to build that aren't military might be nice. Astronomy is good for the observatories, but won't it also kill our Colossus?

Sadly, Monty's preferred civic is a long way away...but maybe that's a priority to consider in the medium term. Representation and sufferage aren't likely to be important enough to lose out on the favorite civic bonus, methinks. In which case, the SoL would be better for our bro.

We might want to look at keeping our military strength respectable from now on. I'm more in favour of units that are good in the field. A few longbows are all well and good, but they aren't too well suited for keeping the land unpillaged.

Maybe we can AVOID techs that give a large military advantage. If monty's power is too high, he'll be off killing stuff rather researching and building. Besides, this game won't be too much fun if it's only us and Monty left.

Is serfdom worthwhile once we've whipped spain down to size?

Well, those are my thoughts, jumbled though they are.

I am in favor of astronomy-we really want to be ahead of the curve on tech in this game. The loss of the colossus won't be a big deal since we have expanded. Anything that speeds up research would be welcomed by me. We do need to keep build military though too. Even if Monty plays nice I would not trust Alex. How are our relations with Louis? Still Friendly? Once we get the military squared away and observatories up, lets spam some buddhist missionaries since we have the Mahabodi- don't forget to build a buddhist monastery or two before Sci Method!!!

Peace and plenty were the hallmark of this reign. I did lose a Praet on a training mission against a barb city in old Spain, though. You would think a 88% probability would go in my favor, though.

The end of the resistance in old Spain and the forced labor production of courthouses where needed gave another boost to the Roman economy and we are back in black making good progress from Astronomy to the Democracy path.

Lil' Bro made a civics change, to Representation and Nationhood but he feared his Bigger Brother was becoming too advanced and wasn't interested in trading Constitution to us.

The bulk of the Spanish Expeditonary Force was moved back home, though substantial garrisons remained in Madrid and Barcelona. Delphi promises to be a flash point as it represents a salient into Greece, and should probably have a larger garrison.

We did get Copper from Spain, though it needs a mine because of lil' bro's playful pillaging. There is a worker on it now.

The bulk of the work force is re-improving Seville, laying down cottages and mines after replacing the pasture and farm wrecked during the war. A couple of others are wandering around chopping miscellaneous unworkable forests to get some more hammers in the various bins.

The old English lands remain unsettled as near as I could tell. Alex did pput one town down there, but there appears to be lots of land to keep him and Louis happily building settlers for decades. At least I hope they won't be getting any ideas about acquiring some of our towns. Lil' Bro has fewer options so getting the borders towns up to strength is sound family therapy. Having lots of rods around will prevent spoilage.

After Astronomy came in started us down the road to Democracy and started an observatory in one our higher beaker towns. We acquired two shrines in the war with Spain, the Mahdabodi and the Nativity (Seville and Madrid) so after their courthouses those cities started their respective monasteries for missionary purposes. Neapolis is training troops (grenadiers and knights) No build orders were issued other than those as the other cities were already working longer term economic or educational infrastructure.

I had hoped to provide some maps and illustrations, but my Photobucket is filling way tooo slowly tonight. Will try again tomorrow.

Monte purchased Astronomy from us for 350 gold pieces and got back 200 of those and a rice pudding for his birthday.

I'm up; I see it; can play tomorrow night. I don't think there's any way to get Monty to friendly besides sharing his Police State civic -- but I think we should prioritize that path after Democracy.

Sorry, but I won't get to this tonight -- I wanted to finish up Sooooo's Weekend OCC first, and now I'm more sleepy than I expected. If theGrimm is raring to go, he can take it and swap with me; else I'll play on Wednesday night.

I'm sleep deprived after too much guild wars, myself.

I won't get to it before Wednesday night either, which is only a few hours ahead of your Wednesday night, so you go ahead. Tomorrow night is better for me, anyway.

Before asking a question like this, consider reading the special rules for this game. A war declaration by the younger brother is already included on the list of rules.

    Just peaceful progress here.

I stayed the course to Democracy, with Arretium chosen as the location of the Statue of Liberty. It's our second-highest hammer city; Neapolis has more but we don't want to shut down the Heroic Epic for fifty turns.

Ravenna's out of decent tiles to work, and it's the National Epic city, so I hired three specialists there instead. It's at 20 GPP/turn now. It popped a Great Artist towards the end of my run. I figure it's best to save him for a Golden Age.

On the religion front, I decided to focus on Christianity rather than Buddhism. Seville the Christian city is larger and stronger than Madrid the Buddhist city, so it can get Wall Street done sooner with a bigger payoff. I also ordered up some Banks elsewhere in order to qualify for Wall Street soon.

Oxford's done in Rome, pushing it to 214 beakers/turn, which is a third of our civ-wide total of 658.

When we got to Constitution, we discovered that Little Bro had already gotten it. :goodjob: Democracy finished on my last turn, and it became one heck of a birthday gift for Monty. He's got Corporation and Rep Parts but doesn't want to trade them yet.

I did not revolt to Emancipation, but I suggest next leader do so. Arretium is starting the Statue now -- when Rep Parts comes in, we may want to replace some towns with watermills here.

ARGH. My internet access at home was down for about 2 hours last night, so I couldn't get the game until it was too late to play.

I'm at work now, and have a social engagement after work, but I'll be able to get to it tonight after that for sure. However, if Atlas wants it, he can grab it; I'll be able to pick it up quite soon after he's done with it, thanks to the weekend and the wife being in Disney.

I did start playing (but never even got around to pressing enter on ther inherited turn)...there may be a couple of cities that can benefit from a quick whip before emancipation (small size, 5+ food per turn).

Also, despite a significant GDP lead, Monty has at least 3 techs more than us: Replaceable Parts, Corporation and Rifling (He told me about his "numberless riflemen"). I imagine our cash gifts are fueling his research in ways that the GDP do not reflect well. We might not want to let him have TOO much of a tech lead until he's friendly again

The good news is that he doesn't appear to be sharing the love with Louis or Sally any more than with us (WTFWYT?).

King Romulus theGrimm V (frequently referred to as “the Dull”) ruled the Roman Empire for 45 years, from1670AD to1715AD. His nickname was derived not so much from his personality as from the nature of his rule. His was a peaceful empire, and he continued, to a large extent, with the policies laid down by his predecessors.

Rome prospered financially and materially, and showed significant advantages over it’s neighbours in the area of domestic product, production and even military power, with only the boisterous Montezuma, brother and ally to Rome, having a larger force.

Romulus theGrimm V’s most noteworthy achievements included the abolition of slavery (some reports speak of localized abuse of slaved in certain fertile ex-Spanish cities, but these reports were never confirmed), the advances of replaceable parts and corporation and the spreading of the Christian religion.

A favorite saying amongst historians at the time was, “Great for Rome, Sucks for History,” though all agreed that it would be most pleasant if the prosperity were to continue for some years.

    ***

Nothing major here. I whipped a few smallish Spanish cities with good food surplus before revolting to emancipation. There are a number of cottages which could use an upgrade, and whipping has ceased to be significantly beneficial.

I also shuffled military around just a tad, shoring up a couple of vulnerable towns, but nothing major. There are still a few vulnerable towns, which Neapolis can see to.

Corporation was a no brainer after Replaceable Parts came in (4 turns, and it increased our income from -11 to +8), and we’re now on steam power, which also seems like a no brainer to me. Steam Power->Industrialism->Fascism, yes please. Scientific Method offers nothing tasty at the moment, and Monty already has it.

Spread Christianity around a but, first priority being our own cities with happiness issues.

Any hints for the next leader? Nope, plain sailing at the moment.

Monty’s birthday: 5GPT just to be different.

    Oh Brother Where Art Thou?

Oh, Right there, to the left on the minimap. So there are 275 turns left in this game. Right now we are beelining to Fascism and Police state to hopefully get "friendly" with Monty. We shall see. We need to continue to build military, christian missionaries, and buddhist missionaries

With that thought in mind take a look at this city

now there just is not a lot to with this city, it will never get much bigger so it doesn't really need happy/healthy buildings. The other thing is that we have a number of cities like this- I think they should just pump missionaries and military. Everybody's power graphs' are close to each other, we want to maintain that or we risk war.

Steam Power comes in and brings good news

and here are the pop ups- also check out that windmilled coal hill- I rather like that tile. We do have coal hooked up somewhere so you can leave those windmills if you want or mine them, your choice.

Definately a builder's round here. Oh Oh, I almost forgot-

Happy Birthday to you, Happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear Monty, happy birthday to you. You get 2000 free beakers.

BTW- Kylearan did you lose power last night? I know it was cold and that is the worst time to lose power.

Did we build Wall Street yet? Seville is the place, as it's our more productive religious shrine.

It's amusing that Monty has all the "Declare War On" and "Adopt Civics" options available on his side. He really will do whatever we tell him to. Also, he's got Military Tradition -- wonder if he'll ever come ask for a Defensive Pact?

What's that, "Why The F-- Won't You Trade?"

    Hi,

No, we didn't lose power fortunately. Only a couple of kilometers north of us several cities suffered from the power outage, though!

Scary: A mistake from one power company here in Germany caused a power outage for millions of people in all over Europe. This really leaves you thinking what terrorists might be able to do if they target our power system... :scared:

Anyway, I have the game. Strange that no wars are going on at the moment! The biggest impact of "aggressive AIs" seems to be that the we won't get to friendly terms with our little brother, and not much more. Certainly not what I had in mind when enabling that option...
