RBC15I - Napoleonic Europe - Sweden (DG)

lose 2 cavs, 1 rifle, and our rifle army

(I completely agree with you about risking our Armies; we have a spare leader, and I'd guess we could even afford to rush one.)
But that brings up one question: What's a Rifle Army worth in VPs? 50% of Army and 4 MI (340VPs), or only 50% of the Army - when you disband it, you don't get shields for the units in it, and when you sink a ship, you don't get VPs for the units aboard. Not that is matters much here, though.

Really nice set of turns.
I especially like the part with Britain being a real help; doesn't happen that often in Civ3 (and they are not even allied with us  )

Any chance to make peace with Ottomans? That war doesn't bring us anything IMHO.
:Wow: Warsaw is size 28!!! $$$$ VPs...

Yeah, that one really hurt. I hate to lose an army. Something personal about it. But I really didn't want to give them Brussels. It has such a nice killing field in front, especially with our new fort perched on the hill giving us a nice crossfire... if there was such a thing in Civ ;)

That was pretty cool. Might have saved our Prussian lands, which I pretty much stripped when I sent everything that could move to fight the French. The British troops outclass the Austrians to the extent that they get a 3-to-1 or 4-to-1 kill ratio. Plus they use our territory to heal, while the Austrians have to try and withdraw. It's been a slaughterhouse. The Austrians attack one of our cities, get retreated, the Brits put them out of their misery, and then heal nd wait for the next hussar. Looks planned :)

Not in territory, but we've killed a lot of janisaries at minimum cost. They've decided to leave their entire armed forces as fertilizer for the farmland around Caen.

Paris awaits! Too bad there is't more time, we could take all of Europe :)

Good going Danz. The Austrian intervention is something I feared during my turns as well. The Brits and Austria were fighting all along our southern borders during my turns as well.

Go for Paris, I want to sip champagne for the style points. Warsaw is a given :)

How is it going Doc ?

Saw in another thread you claimed a win, does that mean you have played, and forgotten to post :)

'Forgotten' is not the correct term...I have technical problems to connect my notebook to the net (my network card doesn't work with my new telecom provider's DSL  , and call-by-call connections aren't allowed). Thus, I have to transfer everything first via CD to my old tabletop, and then via 3.5' discs to a really antique P3. OS problem...my tabletop runs W98SE, so no USB memory sticks; even worse, the only computer able to connect to the net is W98, and doesn't recognize data CD burned under XP. Not that I think this is of any interest for you, but I simply had to tell it somebody for the sake of my mental health :crazyeye:
Not a big deal for saves etc, but you surely want some screenshots ;).
Should manage to get it up in a couple of hours, though.

Sorry for the delay

Oh, my. I feel badly for you, Doc. You're a poster child for why Windows is one of the Axes of Evil.

Here we go:

Victory1.jpg

Sweden, 1815AD.

First, status check:
We have no alliances with anyone, good. We have 40415VPs, compared to France with 31285, even better. KoN is still in the game, hiding behind Russia  .
Our citizens are not really happy, despite our outstanding military achievements.
Let’s see…we have 3759gp, +241. And in 6 turns left, we can never spend that. I want to concentrate on France and Austria anyway, so I make peace with Ottomans (we pay 80gp), completely trashing their Rep…if anything like that was left. Buy Dyes for WM and 28gpt. Buy Gems from Britain for Wines, WM and 21gpt. Happy Faces all over the place, even in the French cities. Decadent crowd…
Rush stuff, we hardly need a cash reserve…
Gift Spain Horses, Furs, and 500gp – they need it more than we do. The odd thing is, they have Horses connected  - and no, they don’t trade them to KoN, and everyone else has their own supply.
Move Workers out of Frankfurt to build a road to Nancy, cover with healthy Army.
IBT:
Loose 3 MI to Hussars – all on the Saltpetre Hill S of Posen. But 3 more in the open defend without a scratch
Britain wants MPP, decline politely. They nevertheless clear out all Austrians on our turf, and reinforce their expeditionary corps with 3 Lifeguards and 3 Redcoats :)
Grand Army runs away, except for an ICav, who doesn’t take a single HP off from the MI in Frankfurt before retreating.
WltKD nearly everywhere (I intentionally kept lux at 30%).

Turn 1: Mar., 1815
Clean out some retreated Hussars next to Warsaw.
Ack, I’m an idiot – completely missed France and Ottomans have an MPP. Oh well, at least our citizens were happy for one interturn.
Approach Nancy – I want to take Paris in a two-pinch attack.
Rush stuff like no tomorrow (well, there IS no tomorrow  )
IBT:
Britain and Austria are carrying it out in out lands. The Redcoats also take out a Janissary for us. Nice to have friends.
Not a single French attack, they seem to mostly run back S.
All the WltKDs end.

Turn 2: May., 1815
Start killing defenders from Nancy.
Hm, why didn’t we use the Leader to rush the CIA earlier? Now it doesn’t make sense anymore (though I’d love to see what to expect in Paris…but then, we will attack it anyway).
Keep rushing.
 what’s that? I want to trade for the 401gp Britain has, and even 200gpt are only ‘close’. Obviously, our Rep is clean, so where’s the problem? Are they running a deficit?
IBT:
Hm, even redlined Hussars run to attack 2/4 Cavs…but then, there are not only Redcoats, but Russian Guards as well to help us. Loose a smaller stack of Workers and GBs to IGuards, but nothing that couldn’t be fixed in the next turn.

Turn 3: Jul., 1815
France has quite some IGuards running around, but Nancy is only defended by 3 IGuards and 2 Conscript Volt. GBs do their job, and Nancy is ours.
Solve the problem with the Workers (in fact, they were all French, thus they were not in danger to get disbanded), and GBs.
Burn a lot of cash to rush GBs and Cavs everywhere they can reach Paris in time.
IBT:
Minor casualties against Hussars. Resistance in Prague ends.

Turn 4: Sept., 1815
For the first time, the GBs at Warsaw do their job – their was a bullet-proof Elite Grenzer all the time... Kill 3 Grenzers and a Hussar with Cavs, a Conscript Grenzer with a ¾ MI. 2/4 Grenzer shows up. Looks like no Barracks in the city. Reinforcements from Sweden arrive in Danzig for the last time, we may have a shot at Warsaw after all.
Position for the icing on the cake:
23 GBs. 4 Cav Armies. Furuhjelm in Nancy waiting to form another Cav Army if needed (will need to disband the MI Army). 22 more Cavs. 5 MIs ready to strike next (last!) turn :D
IBT:
Our British friends kill some more Austrians. Out Russian friends…well, all the do is cleaning up pollution
Nancy is attacked by 3 Janissaries and a Sipahi, lose a MI.

Turn 5: Nov., 1815
First, Warsaw (gonna save me the REAL action last):
GBs hit about 50% of the time; only 2 Vet and an unknown number of Conscript Grenzers.
Make that 2 Conscripts, and 2 ¼ Hussars. Suffer some casualties against one daemonic Grenzer, but size 26 Warsaw is ours. Oh, 24 Resistors

Warsaw.jpg

On to Paris!
Bombardment:
Only 4 IGuards. 1 Elite Volt.
GBs miss more than they hit, then it’s brute force.
Armies kill the IGuards, Elite Volt, 2 Vet Volt.
5 Cavs kill 3 Reg Volts.
ICav shows up. Reserve GB yellowlines ICav. Conscripts show up.
3Cav kill 2 Conscript Volt. 2/3 Volt shows up.
Vet Cavs flawlessy kills Volt, Elite. Now the ICav again, that’s why you keep some Artillery in reserve ;).
Cav kills 1/3 Volt. Cav kills 1/3 ICav, and [dance] Champaign for everyone!

Paris.jpg

Can finally form one more Army, use it to kill some stray units.
There’s absolutely nothing more to gain than small change in VPs (we’re at 51200, vs. 32960), so I make peace with France (they won’t give up a city, and I even need to throw in 50gpt for General Education) and Austria (include 80gpt for Seapower and Sanitation).
Just for extra style points, research Future Tech 1 with a single Scientist.
And, I think our citizens should participate in the celebrations, so I rise Lux to 60%, and start on Public Schools everywhere ;)
IBT:
Britain and Austria follow our example and come to the peace table. Only the barbaric Ottoman pagans need to slaughter one of our Cavs.
Wow, a personnel record: Our troops manage to quell 17 out of 19 Resistors in Paris.
WltKDs everywhere (except the resisting cities, of course)

And, we win :)

We’re number two in land, and number 3 in pop – without building a single Hospital.
Final VPs are 51375.

Here's the save before victory (note with random seed, interturn may be different):
Last Turn

...and our lands after victory: Glorious Sweden

It was actually pretty close to reach Paris in time; stared at the screen for about an hour, and figured out that capturing Nancy before is the key, allowing most units from Germany to get there fast enough, without stripping the defence there too early. And the units around Paris were no overkill.

Congratulations to the team for a great job.
I must say this was one of my most intense SGs.
We fought against insane odds (remember our starting army? 6 Musketman and 1 Cannon...) but brilliant planning and superior tactics pulled a victory.
I especially enjoyed that this was not really decided for a long time.
Special thanks to Napoleon for being a capable competitor. “France looks gassed.” “That’s all they have?” “France must be really gassed.” “Now wait, there are 50 Imperial Guards next to Caen!” :D

I’m thinking of playing Portugal (DG) and Netherlands (Monarch?) once the RaR games are rolling, someone interested?

Great job, especially the peace in the end. It's funny to see Sweden established as the primary force on the European continent. And all from 6 muskets and 1 cannon :)

Is RaR a mod? Portugal and the Netherlands aren't playable...

The Dutch would be fun... we can throw heavy wooden clogs filled with spoiled cheese at Napoleon's Imperial Guard, that will teach them :)

But their buddies the English will surely give them some? It can't cost much to supply a 1CC with all the resources and luxuries it could possibly need :)

Thanks for the game folks.
I agree on the surprise move Napoleon threw at us. That was one of the longest turns I have ever had while I thought about what to do.

Great game by all involved.
