Re-Install

All my firaxis games stopped working when I hadn't used this computer in 2 months.

So I deleted civ 3 and 4 from program files... then got rid of them in regedit. I put in the install CD for civ 4 and it says

The setup has detected that version 1.74.000 of Sid Meier's Civilization 4 is already installed.
This setup installs an earlier version of Sid Meier's Civilization 4 (1.61).
You will have to uninstall the previous version before installing this version

1. Never uninstall that way

2. open control panel, go to uninstaller, look for civ4, if you can uninstall, uninstall it there

3. If nothing is there, go to documents/my games/civ4 delete the folder,

try a reinstall. Hope this helps...

I have encountered the same problem, resulting from downloading the patch and being unable to run the game or uninstall it. I manually removed the program files, then all registry entries that I could find. I downloaded a registry cleaner just to make sure. I cannot find a folder "my games" in documents. I still get the error message referring to 1.74 installed, this setup installs an earlier version. What is causing the problem? Is it a registry entry that I missed? I am quite frustrated, and am about to do a clean install of windows. Before I do, does anyone have any other suggestions?
