A barb destroyed a silver mine of mine, so I got a message that my trade agreement with Sweden (where I'd sold the silver for a flat price: 240 gp) was cancelled. After dispatching the interloper, I had a worker repair the mine--and got to sell the silver back, to Sweden again, for the full price. And no, nothing got taken from my treasury to compensate when the original agreement was broken.

Working as intended? Have I just been oblivious to this mechanic all these months? Should I be letting those pesky barbs ransack my luxuries as a game strat? :mischief:

It should give you some penalaty if this happen, if your improvment got pillaged by barbarians woulden't that be a sign that you are incapable of defending your lands.

It should give you a diplomaticla penalaty with the civ you traded with and it should make all civs demand more from you in futher trades because that you have proven that you can't keep your end of the deal.

This exploit has been around since launch. Stupid? Definitely, most of us just ignore it and pretend it's not in the game. Shame on Firaxis for not fixing it though.

That was an abusial tactic back in CIV3, a spear walks up close. Yeah, sell those gems right now and we did. Spear pillage. Rehook it, just to trade it again.

If you really want to abuse it you could get pyramids and representation (the free worker policy), then just start building a fort over any lux to essentially "pillage" it, rinse and repeat.

Yeah, it's pretty stupid that they leave the exploit in there. They should at least automatically halt the deal and resume it when you reconnect.
